2007 Summer Music Programs

no you don’t. I think you just have to be extra good to be accepted as a graduated senior. but definetely try- other than going to the academy, camp was the most amazing experience of my life.

Is the BTP the program that Ann Reiking use to be involved with?

trill - I think you are correct.

For OCU do you have to send in a DVD audition by the begining of January or is there also a later date, I really would like to send in an audition DVD but with the Holidays and everything coming up I’m am just not sure I can get a tape and everything together by January.

Does anyone know which session will be doing Les Miz at OCU?

Rissa…I believe there is a schedule of dates on their website on how to send in your audition tape. You can check here…http://www.okcu.edu/music/academy/sminfo.aspx</a></p>

Good luck!

Trill: To confirm Ericsmom’s response, yes this is the program Ann Reiking has been involved with. My d attended two summers ago and loved it, very intense training for 3 weeks. They do a broadway and dance revu type show instead of a musical like some other summer programs. My d wanted the intense training that summer before college auditions more than she wanted to do a musical per say… She was 17 (16 is minimum age) at the time, but over half the participants were college students. If anyone has any questions…
My same d also attended Interlochen several summers ago and NYSSSA Choral Studies (New York Summer School for the Arts - for NY staters - 4 weeks) if anyone has any questions about these programs. Liked them both for different reasons. NYSSSA is more of a choral program (they do also have ballet, theatre, instrumental and modern dance programs but I have no experience with these) - but if you are from NY and interested in improving your singing or music theory skills - take a look at it. They also do small ensembles and musical theatre and opera scenes. This is a good program for anyone thinking about music ed or vocal performance also. (They are getting a different director for next year as the one they’ve had previously is not coming back - did it for several years - probably ready to move on to something different)
My younger d also attended NYSSSA last summer and is considering French Woods, Stagedoor manor, US Performing Arts Camps or NYSSSA for next summer. So many good programs to choose from!

Has anyone gone to or know much about the US Performing Arts Camps. I believe they have musical theatre, dance, voice, and acting programs (only 1 week each) at Oberlin in Ohio and American Univ.?
My d is looking into this program but we don’t know anyone with first hand knowledge!!! Anyone? Thanks.

Hi musicalmom and Ericsmom…I thought Ann was involved. I understand she has since ended her time with BTP.

About USA Performing Arts Camp…I believe those are “traveling” camps that spend a week in select cities (they did one in Texas last year). I’m not sure where the faculty comes from.

My sophomore D had her DVD audition recorded today to send into OCU for their summer program. She did a great job. OCU says that if they receive the auditon by Jan 5th, she’ll know by Jan 15th if she got in. I’m excited for her!

Can you tell me what is involved in a DVD audition? Do you need to have a professional videographer record it?

We did not get a professional. We asked a college-aged friend of our D’s to do it (hobby of his). It has to be done with a live accompianist, so we hired a pianist from my daughter’s music conservatory. It only took one hour and it was done at the local university’s music department.

Does anyone know anything about Broadway Artists Alliance? Their website is: http://www.broadwayartistsalliance.org/</a>. Its looks interesting and challenging, but I wonder if anyone has experience with it. How does it compare to the college programs?

I have participated in several things with Broadway Artists Alliance. It was an experience that I enjoyed very much! Everyone that attended was extremely professional and talented and the program enabled me to grow as a performer. I had the opportunity to study with current Broadway performers, casting directors, and agents.

Along with the one/two week summer intensive, they also have a weekend long winter intensive, and several One Day Master Classes throughout the year.

I auditioned for the current revival of Bye Bye Birdie on Broadway and made it through to the final callback. At every single one of my seven callbacks I knew at least one of the casting directors sitting behind the table through classes I attended at BAA.

If anyone has any questions, I would be more than willing to answer them!
Happy New Year to all!! :)
