These are a hoax according to the thread they originated in.

A guy made them up at a u t o a d m i t . c o m. At least that’s what some charge.

It would be great to have Wash U in the top ten. Wouldn’t surprise me, especially after overenrolling by ~100 students.

WashU overenrolling by 100+ students won’t have any bearing on this year’s rankings, because U.S. News eliminated yield as a factor in the rankings. However, this overenrollment will indirectly cause WashU to become harder to get into next year and drop the acceptance rate a couple points. My guess is that it will be around 15% ish next year. So expect a possible change in 2008’s rankings.

Still, I find the U.S. News rankings to be absolutely horrid, and I really don’t put any stock into them.

That’s good news!

This list is a hoax…wait until Friday.

Apparently Wash U dropped to 12.

According to the latest College Confidential US New ranking the University of Chicago jumped 6 spots and is now #9…go figure? The U of Chicago is a great school, but I think it’s weird for any college to move ahead like that.

I think people need to stop paying so much attention to these things.

I agree with you Achill. I’ve come to realize that all these rankings and arguing over a few points is so petty and meaningless. All that matters in a school is whether it challenges you, gives you opportunites, and is a fit for you. That’s all that really matters. I don’t care about rankings and ratings anymore.

I have to say the same. It seems that by focusing on a ranking so much you also place a sub-conscious limit on what you can achieve based on your college.
