<p>These HS grad numbers are for the US. International applications are increasing as well.</p>
<p>Sorry, but these numbers are pretty meaningless. The vast majority of high school graduates are not applying to the most selective colleges in the nation.</p>
<p>The main contributor to the rising application numbers and the corresponding dropping acceptance percentages at top schools is the fact the students are applying to many more schools then they used to. That’s not going to stop because of a few less high school students. To contrary, this year’s results will probably cause the next crop of applicants to apply to even more schools. The sheer volume of applications has made predicting admissions much less of a science and much more of a lottery.</p>
