2008 W2 Income extremely "skewed"

My 2008 w2 shows almost twice what I will actually make in 2009 due to transfer of private stock in a small corporation. (phantom income)

Will the FA folks take a look at 2009 paystubs in their analysis?

As it stands now, my son is being recruited to play football by the Ivys and near-Ivys…all of which will cost in excess of 50,000/year…while holding an acceptance to a fully paid for state university (but no football…just merit).

As it stands now, based on the 2008 figures, I don’t expect ANY financial aid to be granted…but may receive some should they look at the 09 projections.

Anyone know if they are flexible?

unfortunately, the FAFSA and profile go by your income tax returns; they count the w2 amount (and schools may require you to send in copies of your returns). The schools’ individual financial aid offices usually have a way for you to indicate “unusual circumstances”. I don’t know if there are any interactions between coaches and financial aid offices, but that might be worth looking into at the specific schools in question. Good luck!
