Florida, 216. The Semifinalist score has been 211 for the past few years, so I’m hoping I get it.

my school has had em for a week or 2 but isn’t giving it out yet. i’ve been badgering the guidaance office and they said probably by the end of this week. but my mom called and got the scores. so mine are as a junior. 67M 63CR and 56W. i consider it pretty bad but its an improvement off sophmore year, i had a 170 then. 186 now. took the sat’s dec 5th and i hope i did alot better on those than i did on this.

can anyone get me a feel for what the curve is? about how many did i probably get wrong for each score i got. 67M 63CR and 56W. i don’t think i omitted any. i actually hate omitting

“colleges see u got 230+ they’ll consider it as perfect”

Zerafenix, colleges don’t consider applicants’ PSAT scores.

I wish I had the form W test. I got 78 M 75 W 71 CR. It’s so sad; I missed one question each for the Math and Critical reading sections and I got 7 points taken off.

The worst part is that I’m an international student and so a score of 224 might not be enough to be a NMSF. If only I lived in Idaho…

Does anyone else find it strange that last year over 1.5 million juniors took the PSAT and this year only about 1.2 million took it?

More than 1.2 million juniors took the test. I think the wrong number came from this report:

Higher Education Professionals | College Board;

Note the language: “Number of juniors in sample” it does not state that 1.2 million took the test.

In 2008 [PSAT/NMSQT State Summary Reports](SAT Suite of Assessments – Reports | College Board) states that 1,521,122 sophomores took the PSAT and 1,588,688 juniors took the PSAT.

To the person who asked if it’s strange that fewer people took the PSATs this year: it’s not strange at all. PSATs cost money. People have less money. End of story. My D’s school always paid for the PSATs–until this year. That too accounts for the drop.

I’m glad that the poster got a perfect score, but a) it’s definitely prestigious, but it doesn’t count at all toward admittance to college; it counts only insofar as a Merit Scholarship, which translates into money and b) not to burst your bubble, but getting a perfect score is not a guarantee of getting into Harvard, although it certainly can’t hurt. Keep working, don’t slack, etc.

hoveringmom,

I’d be surprised if the sole reason for the drop was economic; it’s rather pronounced.

^ So was there a drop or not? The person who initially answered me made it sound like a no, but hoveringmom and silverturtle seem to also think there was a drop. Even if 1.2 million is a sample of the whole, the 2008 stats said 1.5 million was the sample; this therefore indicates some sort of drop. And it also seems unlikely that the calculations presented online wouldn’t include all test takers.

my school is refusing to hand out PSATS
I’m still waiting…

I loathe my school’s slowness.

^ Last year my school waited until the first week of January…and my school has classes of only about 100 each.

I’m also pretty ****ed at my school. Some of my friends walked into the guidance office today, saw a box full of PSAT score reports and asked to see them. Whoever was there apparently outright lied and said they didn’t have them yet. They keep saying they’ll get the on December 15 as though we are all ■■■■■■■■ and don’t know they have them.

Also, does anyone have a complete list of correct answers. That would be kinda neat.

^ See post #599 for a list of correct answers to the tricker/more debated questions.

According to

Higher Education Professionals | College Board;

More than 1.5 million juniors took the PSAT.

Quote

National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC)
uses the Selection Index score to designate groups of
students to receive recognition in the programs it conducts.
Entry to NMSC’s competitions for scholarships to
be offered in 2011 is determined by students’ responses
to program entry questions on the 2009 PSAT/NMSQT
answer sheet. Both the PSAT/NMSQT Score Report
Plus and the Roster of Student Scores and Plans show
the student’s Selection Index, the student’s responses
to four entry items, and whether the student meets
participation requirements. Currently, more than 1.5
million test-takers meet requirements to enter NMSC’s
competitions each year.
Of the more than 1.5 million NMSC program
entrants, about 55,000 will earn 2009 PSAT/NMSQT
scores high enough to qualify them for recognition. These
students will be notified of their standing through their
high schools in September 2010. Students who qualify
to continue in the competitions for scholarships to be
offered in 2011 must then meet academic and other
requirements specified by NMSC to be considered
for awards.

I am quite happy with my PSAT score, but a little concerned by the writing curve. I got a 230; 80CR, 80M, 70W. That translates to 2 questions wrong on writing, 1 on CR, nothing omitted. Did anybody else find the curve especially harsh on this year’s writing section?

I am concerned because on the practice I took, I got 80,76,76, with 4(!) writing questions wrong.

1 Point per missed question on practice, 5 points per missed question on the real deal?

■■■. AM I ONLY ONE THAT UNDERPERFORMED ON THIS TEST? f

**** MY LIFE. **** MY LIFE.

What practice test was that (the one you are talking about above)? It’s definitely not the practice booklet they gave us, because I recall it having a rather harsh writing curve… definitely not what you said. Maybe you interpreted the scoring wrong?

Talked to my guidance counselor today, and it turns out that I’ll have to wait until early January for my scores.
