2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

wow, it has been nuts in baltimore this weekend. around 26" of snow downtown. my flight better get out tomorrow as another big storm is on track for tuesday into wednesday

Just heard from Columbia integrated cell biology program… Anybody else hear back yet?

Congrats neurosci!! when did you interview and when/how did you hear back!! GO SAINTSS!!!

I interviewed Jan 22 and I heard this morning by email…

I know most of these schools have sent out some invites already, but do you guys think that they still are sending them, or are they done. (for the molecular/immunology program)

University of Alabama Birmingham
Johns Hopkins School of Public Health
UT Southwestern
UT Medical Branch Galveston
Vanderbilt

I also just heard back from Columbia’s Integrated program

got offered an admission to UCSF BMS! woo!

has anyone heard back from ucsb?

Has anyone heard back from University of Illinois-Chicago?

i know i keep asking this but its just so frustrating to not hear anything at all. so here goes, has anyone heard from Emory GDBBS at all (i think there was only one person who posted a few pages back that they had heard)?
also, if you know that they are not sending any more invites that would be helpful too!
thanks all

micro-

I applied to the MSP Program. I know they are done sending out invites. I officially got my rejection letter on Friday through email, but there are 8 departments and I guess my dept only had a small number of applicants versus the other ones. Good luck.

congrats hamster09! :smiley: I have interview at UCSF BMS this week. Have they given you any idea about how competitive this year’s admission is post-interview?

@MicrophD:

Yeah, I think Emory MMG has given out all of the invitations. But in rare circumstances, they might do another interview weekend. Good luck.

Hi everyone!

Just got back from the Brandeis interview weekend. I was planning to go on 2/26, but decided to play it safe and come earlier. The atmosphere in the MCB program is absolutely FANTASTIC. All of the professors seem really chill and very caring about their students. Long story short, I got an acceptance email from them today.

I have upcoming interviews at Stony Brook and BU, both for MCB (or CMB), which I will be cancelling, because Brandeis is my top choice and I accepted their offer. So anybody who is still waiting to hear from these two schools, you can have my spot.

Congratulations to everybody who has received offers, and best of luck to everyone who is still interviewing/waiting for good news!!

hey labgod

when i visited UCSF they did not talk about how many they interview and how many applicants there were. they seem to not care about the stats. but when i spoke to the coordinator she said that about 80 students they interview for a class size of 20-25 students.
this is the bms program btw.

@ Lelouch

I recently got an acceptance letter via email from UT Medical Branch. I applied to their immunology and experimental pathology groups and had interviews with several poi’s a couple of weeks ago.

does anyone know what the acceptance rate for gdbbs at emory is post-interview? specifically, GMB?

Thanks to all who replied! I guess I should wait for my rejection now (sigh); i applied to IMP, i know a bunch of you mentioned different programs but I am assuming it is the same thing.
If anyone is interviewing for IMP can you let me know when the interview weekend is (or already was)?

UCSF BMS class size of 22-25 seems small - did you talk to Lisa? From what I understand, there was a significant increase in applicants this year and last year’s class was about 30. Perhaps they are aiming for a smaller class? That should say something about the competitiveness. Bad year to be applying, I guess.

@mcbphd

Last years UCSF BMS class was actually much smaller than they typical aim for at about 15 people. As stated before they are aiming for 20-25 this year, which would include the MD/PhD students that come in with the first year class. I believe that are interviewing around 80 people and my guess is to take about half.

Speaking with a professor in the adcom, he said that they did get more applicants this year and more highly qualified applicants than ever before. Although this was not stated outright, I also think there is a certain consideration about the California budget issues. Hope this helps!
