14K for vocal performance at Lawrence Con. for D; maybe will pay for the heat up there!

$14000 for Westminster Choir College.

36k at OWU for VP

It is helpful in the post to differentiate merit vs FA vs work. THANKS.

14 K merit at Lawrence

D got 25K merit at Chapman

ok. 18k academic. 3k scholarship contest at the college, 15k music scholy. 36k merit

If I’m not being too picky…are these annual awards or a one time award?

I got a full scholarship award plus living expenses for my studies at Yong Siew Toh conservatory of music.

annual awards

Just trying to keep this on page one to avoid a duplicate thread.

Bassoon:
UMD 20K annual/merit
BU 8k annual/merit
BOCO 10K annual/merit

Oberlin meets full need right ?
They gave me 10k merit but they will give me some need money as well I suppose ?! Because I am obviously very very grateful for the 10k but if schools keep giving me awards in the 10-15 range, I am just not making it !!

Bassplayer08, if you recall some of the early pm’s we exchanged, I told you that you would have to be extremely aware of each institution’s financial aid/scholarship policies for international students. I am sure the others that counseled you off board did so as well.

I hope you made your choices wisely.

Even if an institution meets full need, the “need” is determined by the institution, not what you and your parents think you can pay. It is based on financial info provided on the CSS profile, institution specific paperwork if applicable, and whatever financial documentation they may request from international applicants.

And the US economy stinks at the moment. Many schools took dramatic losses to their endowments. A number of schools that have been very generous are now far less so.

The good news is that the anecdotal evidence I have seen is that a number of conservatories dispense artistic talent awards solely on the audition results, to both resident nationals and international applicants. The bad news is full tuition scholarships based on talent alone are hard to come by, and full ride (complete cost coverage) is a rare bird even for those at the top of the food chain. In some cases, it may even be instrument contingent.

I do hope you applied to some continental options, where the costs may be far more reasonable.

And I wish you the best of luck with your acceptances and packages from US schools.

Bassplayer08, I was admitted as well and I also got 10k from the music school (I got other academic awards). I thought I read somewhere than 10k was the most they give for talent scholarship, but now when I’m trying to find that information to confirm, I can’t find a solid “max” number.

Thanks violadad and TerrenceC ! I do have a safety in my country and anyway we still can apply to schools for fall 2010 until september 2010 over here.
Was your academic award included in your Oberlin College admission letter ?

Terrence: that is 10K per year, right?

Yes chambay, 10k a year. I just don’t know what to compare it to.

And Bassplayer08, yes, my Oberlin academic scholarships were included in the financial aid package from the get go when I first received my acceptance/package.

Bassplayer08, did you apply to both Oberlin College and the Conservatory, or just the conservatory?
