Thanks barrons.

What happened to Amherst to take them from 100 last year to 96 this year? Their acceptance rate went down 3%, their SATs went up (if I recall)…is it because their PA went from 4.7 to 4.6?

I think it’s fairly easy to prove that the 75th percentile taken from 75th of M + 75th of V is the upper bound on what the 75th of M+V is together.

For example roughly 10,000 kids score 800 math every year, 5000 writing every year, and 8000 reading every year. But less than 300 kids score a 2400. You can’t just add the ranges.

Some of my classmates are from Stuy, and they aren’t smart. My HS is horrible, but the valedictorians are definitely smarter than those from Stuy at a top LAC. Don’t kid yourself.

timbit, Hamilton is ranked 21st on the LAC list. I just got the guide and there seems to be some surprises on the top 50 LAC’s. They got to do something about all these ties, there are 4 schools tied at #14, 4 schools tied at #25, 4 schools tied at #36 4 schools tied at #49. I am not a great typer so it would take me half the night the type on the list but I would be happy to answer any specific rankings.

Beloit, Knox, St. Olafs, Lawrence, Kalamazoo and Whitman please

Do you mind posting rankings for:

-Oberlin College
-Kenyon College
-Whitman College
-Macalester College

thanks :)

I don’t think I’m kidding myself. Stuy’s average SAT score is about 2100. The average SAT score in the nation is approximately a 1500, and many kids still do not take the SAT. The numbers speak for themselves; the average kid with a 2100 SAT score could reasonably be a valedictorian at an average high school.

What happen to University of Iowa?

smallcollegesftw:

Beloit: 62
Knox: 80
St. Olafs: 49
Lawrence: 59
Kalamazoo: 68
Whitman: 36

I knew it was a mistake picking Amherst over Williams.

Wealth? Pomona is richer than #1,2,3,4,4.
It couldn’t tie with Swarthmore?
So Middlebury has better socioeconomic diversity compare to Pomona? I highly doubt it.

After 2012, I don’t care if Amherst goes down to Hamshire. For now, it should stay put in the top 2.

bobby, can u give me colby and bates?

nothingcompares:

Oberlin: 22
Kenyon: 33
Whitman: 36
Macalester: 29

Iowa 71.
Oby 22
Whitman 36
Kenyon 33
Mac 29

Urgh, most valedictorians have higher SAT than 2100 AND PERFECT GPA.
Lazy kids can score 2100 but cannot become valedictorians

kennebec:

Colby: 22
Bates: 25

Nationwide I doubt most Vals average 2100.

coolbreeze,

University of Iowa was tied for 71st with 5 other schools, a 6 way tie.

Thanks, I just remember it being rank 66 last year.

Colorado College and Reed?
