I thought for sure Williams would move down a spot this year, considering 20% fewer kids applied this year than last year.

Every legacy I’ve ever known to apply to Stanford, gets in.

Here’s my take on the rankings:

Those that understand them and what goes into them, don’t take them all that serious.

There of plenty of people not concerned with academia to this degree and don’t even know what this list is. And I think those with kids not yet in the demographic probably is pretty high in this group.

Finally, there are those that think this is some religious reckoning. And really, do these kinds of people really dictate behavior?

Tzar09: the 2010 rankings use 2008 data. next year we will see the crazy application changes factored into the rankings (such as Williams and Middlebury seeing drops and Wesleyan seeing a rise), as well as the endowment hits

I can’t contradict you on that one.

How can any of you put any faith in these rankings?

any thoughts on olaf and mccalester? it seems like the midwestern colleges get skrewed cuz of their locations in the chilly north… too bad.

how is the formula going to change for the 2011 ranking??

They’re already up even though the countdown clock is still going, lol. It seems that this leak was legit, at least for the first few schools that I just scanned over.

You don’t know many then. I know several triple legacies that did not get in – and yes, their stats, ecs, and essays were solid.

Ahem. Caltech’s rate is around 16%. Acceptance rate isn’t cut-and-dried, with many factors such as self-selectiveness, class size, etc to be taken into consideration.

I do not doubt that there are people who will NOT apply to Columbia because it is in NYC, but I also do not doubt that they are strongly outnumbered those who DO apply because it is in NYC.

Stanford should be ranked above Penn, and Caltech shouldn’t be in the ranking at all.

Stanford has weak placement for Wall St ibanking…that’s all I know and care about

UC Santa Barbara baby!!!

Had it been true, it would be a good reason to set myself on fire.

I know. But Prestige and Pedigree have no business in Middlebury, Vermont.

But I don’t want to go to a second-rate university.

Seriously, who’s going to challenge Williams for top spot? Swarthmore? They have their own set of problems.

Next year LAC ranking

Williams
Swarthmore
Pomona
Middlebury
Wellesley
Bowdoin
Davidson
…
…
…
…
Haverford
Amherst

Anyone wanna post undergrad teaching rankings?

top 20 peer assessment for LACs?

100% valid information…These rankings are biased and not very accurate…The best school in the world is probabaly not in the US and the best school in the US is probably Stanford or Berkley or MIT…This Harvard/Princeton stuff needs to stop eventually they will be overtaken in prestige by these younger schools!!

Another year and we’re still not in the top 130. These guys are clueless…

Thankfully, I know that it’s just to sell magazines.

I just have to say that michigan got low balled. All the Michigan CC lifers are going to swallow their tongue when they see that on here tomorrow, lol. USC ahead of Michigan, haha, that is a good one. These rankings are officially ******** as far as I’m concerned. I think that the Univerisity of texas at austin is low balled by having UF ranked with it. UT should be higher than what it is. It is good for UF though, they must be really happy. And then, having UF ranked above Tulane, give me a break. Yeah, ok.

what I also want to know is how can UF be ranked that high when schools like Purdue and Texas A&M are in the 60’s, what the hell, lol.

im still speechless about olaf moving down in rankings… any thoughts?
