2010 USNEWS Top National Universities - OFFICIAL

Ummm UF is a much better school than Tulane…

Do you have any idea what you are talking about?!?! The best school in the world is almost certainly in the US! Futurists, academics, intellectuals, etc may argue that the US is losing its comparative advantages, but one advantage that has definitely stayed constant is that the US has the BEST universities in the world. HYP and other top schools have internationalized such that they truly have the best minds and researchers in the world, not just the US! Other nations don’t even come close in terms of the breadth and depth of universities.

Moreover, judging by the fact that you like Cal and Stanford, you are probably an engineer who is biased by your major, and maybe also an Asian from CA biased by your region. However, by the objective measures (i.e. matriculating SATs, GPA, etc), those universities are still a tier below HYP.

I’m confused. People are talking about USC as if it’s a big deal or something.

It’s a private school, folks. Money can’t buy you love, but it can buy you a big name.

And this is coming from someone whose university is ranked well above SC…sooo don’t say I’m just mad cuz we’re lower.

Booyaksha: While I concur that the best universities in the world are in the US, Cal and Stanford are not a tier below HYP. Live life a little longer, you’ll find that the value of an education isn’t in the letters across the sweater.

Well don’t group Cal and Stanford together. Stanford and HYP are in the same league, while Cal is in a different leauge

You’re assuming Cal wants to be grouped with them. If they did, they’d become a private university. The type of education is really quite different. I think Cal, UCLA, Michigan, UVA and UNC are proud to be in their own league.

I thought UVa was losing state funding and was starting to lean more towards becoming privatized. <Not literally, but more in feel/atmosphere.

I mostly agree… and I would definitely also say MIT, Caltech are also in that league. However, despite strong graduate school programs, Stanford still has lower SAT and GPA’s than the rest… and that could be evident of less academic/intellectual students. But on the whole certainly – Berkeley is much less!

I personally think UVA has always been the most private in feel/atmosphere of the top public universities.

diontechristmas, oh yeah, how do you figure that, when Katrina hit, Tulane students went to schools like Princeton, Harvard, and Yale, you telling me UF students are on Par with Tulane students, come on now. Maybe the whole post Katrina thing is still effecting them, they will get back to the 30’s once again. And putting UF along with UT, you can’t tell me that is fair with a straight face, UF is no where close to UT. No where close, no where close. Since when did UF become a public ivy, what the hell, are you kidding me, have you seen there dorms, what, oh come on. The UT engineering school is top 10, there business school is also top 10, not to mention their law school is ranked 15,and your telling me they are ranked with UF, *****, that is utter , if I’ve ever seen , this is ***. Again, and U Mich should boycott this garbadge, and obviously, the sky is green according to the US News. The US News can shove their rankings up their ass.

^yeah, I’m not geeky enough to look this up, but it wouldn’t surprise me if UVA’s state population to student population ratio were the highest of all the top publics (Mich, Berk, UCLA and UNC)

dang, what’s up with some posters and their profanity laced tirades? Relax, don’t take these things so personally.

It’ll die down eventually. Everyone needs to get it out of their system.

So can someone who got the premium online version of US News tell me what Chicago’s SAT scores were? Just curious, since the printed edition had odd results.

UT business school is now 18, excuse me, but still in all, it is way more recognized than anything coming from UF.

Man. What a useless thread.

What about UT being number 7 in education, obviously, the individual rankings of the schools are not matching up with the overall rankings, there must be some UF alumni on the US News staff. Only way you can explain this BS.

emagic, no joke, useless thread goes along with the US News useless rankings, they are made for each other.

Forever LSU, I think you need to take your meds…

I’m not taking it personally, just have no better words than BS to fit the US News methods. Ahh, well, at this rate, pretty soon, they are going to rank UF’s engineering school with MIT and CalTech, lol, don’t be surprised, lol.

thanks for reminding me, almost forgot. I’m sorry, it is the german coming out, excuse me.

They should; Go Gators!
