2010 Wait for AP Scores: The Home Stretch

A little more than an hour and we should theoretically know if they’ll be up for midnight. Although only two more until we know for sure.

@Tiffany Ah, it’s quite alright. Where’re you staying? Bah, you and your Latin. French is my passion in life :stuck_out_tongue: But I can quite understand what you mean; I started Spanish last year (and am already at junior Spanish, haha), but it’ll never be the same as French. Yeah my school is offering Rosetta stone to some kids for a year, so I might take advantage and do it for Greek; Dad’s just piggy backing :stuck_out_tongue: Ehh I’m not looking forward to AP Calc next year -.- We’re very LA here too. But yeah I was planning on studying abroad; it’s also a tentative plan to get my Master’s (or la maitrise :P) in France too. Ook, sounds good.

Do you guys know how long it takes collegeboard to send scores to a college? If I requested them to send one of my scores (calculus) to my local community college so I can take cal II (cal I is a prereq). Would they be able to send it under a week-ish if I requested it tomorrow?

@Matt A residence inn in DC, visiting my brother, coincidentally. Seems to be back for good now so cross your fingers! Haha. If Latin turns you off, Spanish repulses me. Which is strange, considering my parents are from Brazil and Portuguese was my first language, but I don’t know, I just can’t stand it. AP calc will be the slow, tortuous death of me. Rosetta stone? That’s nice! We have it for French and Spanish, but that’s it. Study abroad will be amazing. I’m hoping for Italy, naturally, or Turkey, where there’s still lots of excavations being done.

6 a.m ok…so I’ll be worrying my head off for 8 hours…Edna’s too nice to me.

@Tiffany Ohey, that sounds fun. Tell him you met a fellow linguistics-lover on CC! Yeah Spanish used to make me break out in hives, but I sucked it up and taught myself a good couple years over the course of two weeks. It’s just not as fun as French…It’s more blech. French gives me a feeling of unparalleled excitement whenever the class approaches; Spanish is still just a class to me. For French I feel like I’m setting up my livelihood, and I don’t feel that for Spanish. Ah, well, I might be starting a new, different language in college. Maybe I could continue Greek? Oh, Turkey? What’s being found out there?

I wish I spoke French. The extent of my knowledge is “voulez-vous coucher avec moi”, and I doubt that’s going to come in handy any time soon.

@Matt Sure will! I probably could do it if I wanted to but my high school won’t let Seniors take introductory language courses (which is extremely lame, in my opinion). I suppose I could try and use the RS program but I don’t know that I’d have the time. I agree, though, French owns Spanish! I personally think my Latin class itself is boring- not the material, the class- because people are only there because they think it is an easy class. That’s true, it is, because of the system used to teach it (different than French and Spanish) BUT I would imagine for people unlike me who don’t fancy the idea of devoting their lives to the subject would be exceedingly bored in that class. It’s weird, but true. I think only a handful of people in there actually get a lot out of the class. Possibly! I get questions all the time about why I enjoy studying a dead language but to me, Latin is so poetic, I don’t see how it ever died. That’s probably why I enjoy French, too, the base Latin has in it. Roman remains of villas and stuff like that. Mostly in the western part where the empire had a few settlements.

Haha if you’re chatting up two French prostitutes in one of Paris’ red-light districts it could work ;P

@kww You never know!

Sorry if this was asked, but is it $8 per test or for all your tests?

^all10char

@Tiffany Haha alrighty then. Whaat? That’s ridiculous. Well, I didn’t start with intro Spanish. I taught myself the intro part, then skipped freshman Spanish to move up to sophomore; it was that easy -.- No I know what you mean with the class being boring; I’ve been bored plenty in French class. There were only three other kids this past year, none of whom loved the language like I did. I’m the only one in my grade who does…it’s a little lonely, because the other kids resent me for it >< Ah, well, the downside of being the best around, right? Is Latin really poetic, though? I’ve read a little bit of the text from my friends’ Vergil class, but of course I couldn’t do it very well. We read some Moliere in French class, and oh my god it was beautiful x) All of the lines rhymed, and it was just fun to read! Well, Latin died because languages change. The kids started speaking slang, and that slang became so different from the classroom Latin (yes you had to start making that distinction) that it “took over” so to speak. <–That’s a very basic explanation, ask your brother maybe for a better one xD. It’s actually a surprise that Latin remained at all; it’s the Germans who took over! Interestingly enough, though, French is the most Germanic of all the Romance languages.

ok, I need an opinion.

I see my scores on my university’s web site, but I am missing a score. I need my score before orientation, and I’m sure that the mail won’t be here by then. Should I call the help number to ask what’s up with that, or should I call Edna?

^maybe it wasn’t high enough to receive credit, or it’s simply not available. You can figure out which one it is by calling Edna, she’ll tell you how many scores are available before asking for your credit card.

My D’s AP scores became available today at the university that she is attending this fall. You might check your university’s admitted students portal for scores

ok, thanks apnoob. It’s definitely not that it’s too low, b/c it shows ALL my scores except that one. (I purposefully bombed english and got a 1, and it showed that). I’ll just get to hear my favorite lady’s voice one more time!

6 a.m. still the planned time?

@Matt This connection is still on and off for some reason so if I disappear, not being rude, I promise. I suppose I could do that but even if I wanted to, my schedule is already overflowing. Exactly! Loneliness is the perfect way to explain it. Yes, the curse of the language enthusiasts. It is when read properly. For those who place no emphasis whatsoever on the accent marks, it is a disaster and sounds awful to the ears (which just about sums up the majority of my class). But when you read it with the correct emphasis and intonnation, it really is beautiful. Sounds very much like Italian, which makes sense, but flows better, I think, because it has no unecessary words. I understand what you mean about French being lovely to read because it really is! It’s a well-known fact. Most people assume Latin is a language reserved for the Catholic church and holds nothing in its own right but I think any future Classics major would beg to differ! Oh, yeah, I know the specifics of it- wrote a paper for my Vergil class on it, in fact, but I guess what I meant was how disheartening it is that it doesn’t get a lot of attention when it is, in fact, a very wonderful language.

@Beta Why did you bomb English? Thanks for bringing down the curve by the way :)

Any chance they’ll be out at midnight? :X
