Now the fun really begins GAmom… ;)

The Pitt airport bus stops at in front the campus. It’s cheap (~$2.50) and quick – mostly express all the way into town, and then just makes a few stops before arriving at Pitt. The med school is a up a hill two blocks, passing one of UPMC’s hospitals, and is across the street from the football Stadium. Very inexpensive city in which to live.

Good luck.

Elleneast,
"It is often hard to make this work but my daughter found it very beneficial to budget extra time when she went to interviews. "

-The same approach with my D., except she went to Second Look events after she has chosen 2 schools. Her decision flipped after Second Look at both schools. Yes, spending more time, getting more information about type of students, program and its focus, location and various opportunites and evaluating your own personal situation and connections in respect to each school in more relaxed situation was important.

Hi,
New to this thread. Thanks so much for sending me this direction, somemom! Feel I’m getting in late in the game, but love the comments/threads.
My son is actively working on his secondaries. Can’t wait to see how the next month unfolds. A bit nervous about interview conflicts, if he is so lucky to have that issue.
I cannot wait until he finishes his secondaries. They seem to be taking so long!
CCL

Happy dance. Pirtzger invite!

^^wow, that’s awesome. Pritzger is denying as fast as they can – getting an invite is wonderful.

Congrats GAMOM and Bigred.!!!

GAmom, Pitt and GW–great schools. Congrats to your D. Are you comfortable sharing her stats? Trying to get a feel for what’s required.

GA2012,
Chicago invite is very rare! Big congrats!

@GAMom

Wonderful, wonderful news!

Thanks all. She just got another one today but at the advice of those much smarter than me, I won’t post the school names anymore. I’m a numskull and my excitement got the better of me.

Newbie here. Why should you not post names of schools, GA2012MOM? Aren’t many of the folks here in the same boat, waiting and wondering? It’s nice to hear that some are hearing back on their applications and getting interviews.
How long does it take to hear back from schools after secondaries are sent in??
Congrats on your daughter’s successes. When did she get all of her apps in (primary/secondary)? Early birds get early responses, right? :)

Because adcomms at med schools don’t like it.

Because it generates unnecessary angst among those who haven’t heard back.

Because it creates a fairly identifiable profile of who GAMom’s daughter is. (IOW, her real life identify/name can become public.)

WOWmom is right, anyone can satisfy their need for specific date info on the timing on SDNs forums for each school.

Generalities are great for the forum, region of the country & perhaps public or private, though all of us have been guilty of TMI

CapeCodLady8, Last year, one applicant provided too much details about the progress of his application at SDN (so that the adcoms can identfy who he is) and really got into some troubles with his application to a medical school. According to what he posted, he had received an interview invite but then the invitation was cancelled by that school likely because of his postings about his like/dislike of various schools at SDN. Many SDNers believed his story (as he was a long-time SDNer) and were quite sympathetic to him about what happened. Luckily, he had already got into a medical school at that time (maybe that particular medical did not like the fact that he had got into another medical school that the former medical school “cares about.” The yield management is likely at play here.)

I have been guilty of “excitement getting the better of me” in the past :(

Wow. Thanks. I had no idea. I guess I sort of thought that CC was a safe forum for discussion. Thanks for the heads up.
Congrats and good luck to everyone. Wish you all the best! Thanks so much for the great info I’ve read.

*Since CC doesn’t allow you to retract or delete messages, I’ll try not to worry too much about any details I’ve already shared. :)

Is it okay to ask from personal experiences, how long it takes to hear from schools after you submit your secondary apps? Just very curious as folks are talking about conflicts with interviews already.

anywhere from less than 24 hours to months

It is funny to think about a busy adcom taking time to surf forums like this and SDN and it is reassuring/scary to see the progression of secondaries & interviews. I specifically recall searching SDN a couple of years ago to see if schools DD had not heard from were offering interviews, often they were not, and that was helpful to know.

S got his first interview invite for md/phd. Very stoked. They will put him up in a hotel as it is a 2 day process. Question-he knows he has to wear his “interview suit” for the formal interviews, but there is a dinner the night before. Smart casual attire? Trying to get packing items covered before he returns to school.
