7 PAGES? for a DBQ? What? That’s too long. The ones the college board shows as 9’s are mostly 3 pages.

Ok, so looking at past exams, my two top guesses for essay topics/time periods were something recent for the DBQ and a free response on early republic–Safe to say I rocked those. WIN. And I think I did pretty well on the one about immigration too.
The weird part is that we legit had JUST watched “All The President’s Men” in class, AND my mom and I had a random discussion about Kissinger–talk about a paranormal experience…

I think I did will I analyzed alot my essay was 3 and 1/2 pages. I agree. How the hell do u have time to write a 7 page essay in 45 minutes? Mine took me over an 1hr lol

About the DBQ:
Literally didn’t study that era so I pretty much winged it… Is this outline decent enough to get a 5/9 on the DBQ?

Nixon and the War, hypocritical because he said he’d take back troops and wanted peace but his actions proved otherwise. Repeated bombings,Cambodia, chemical warfare (“Agent Orange”)

Reception among Americans - Hypocrisy was noticed by many Americans, Hawks wanted war but Doves were against it. Hippies, rock music singers, Woodstock all created an anti-war sentiment among the younger generation, advocating peace, making demonstrations. Nixon did not connect with them and handled this badly - Kent state university, 4 kids dead.

Energy crisis - though he screwed up a lot he handled this relatively well, creating speed limits and limiting gas hours. This is at least to be commended.

Diplomat - talks with Russia and China, detente, good diplomat, opened talks with these countries.

Finally, Watergate. Watergate messed him over and outweighed the good aspects of his presidency.

CONCLUSION - Though he definitely did some good stuff such as talks with other countries and taking steps to stop the energy crisis, his bad stuff - hypocrisy over the War, not handling the anti-war culture well, and Watergate - proved to outweigh the good stuff.

U guys wanna hear something crazy, it’s true tho. So during the 10 min break me and my friend were chilling. I guessed that the dbq would be about Jackson. He’s like u can quote me on this. The dbq will be at Vietnam. Freaky true story lol. They day before the test I decide to go play tennis rather than listen to my teachers afterschool lecture over the Vietnam war. He stayed: ■■■

@Jonathanjat
Tbh I don’t know, but aslong as u analyzed those topics, I don’t see why you wouldn’t.

@jonathanjat that sounds like a good enough outline for a 5

7 pages?

Those poor, poor AP graders.

Also for a question in this manner, there is no right or wrong answer, so you can get away without talking about Nixon’s successes like detente if your thesis addressed his shortcomings. If your thesis was meant to support Nixon’s failures, and you did, its okay to leave out some successes

My APUSH teacher is one of the graders for the essays and stresses this all of the time

So… Do u guys think talking about the pentagon papers, my lai, would help me get a better score, given that I analyze them correctly? I also talked about the student march on Washington where they said the name of a dead soldier from Vietnam , and stopped in front of the white house… I forget what it’s called but u think talking about some finer details can enhance my score?

think i got 65 of the mc right, 8 on the dbq, 3 on the political party essay and 8 or 9 on the african american leaders one.

Anyone else think the aa leaders one was a deviation from previous years. There was no argument or stance to be taken, simply an analysis of the time period. I said that the movement in the 50s and 60s was more successful, but would not have been possible without the earlier movement, obviously including leaders, their stances, and major activities

@brownji12 this is very encouraging because all i did was bash on Nixon. But then i did some after test reading and learned that Nixon wasn’t actually too bad at foreign affairs

as long as you provided examples that were sufficient as to why he was bad, you should be fine

I loved the african American essay. Our teacher had given us a 22 page packet over the civil rights movement. Thank you!!

I did great on the AA essay. I had read some speeches by Washington, du Bois, King, and Malcom X and was actually able to quote word for word in order to support some points.

First time posting, here goes:

I’m not worried at all about the multiple choice. At this point, the only question I know I got wrong was the one with the two women with implausibly similar-sounding names (some test writer somewhere is getting a big laugh out of that, I can guarantee you). Other than that, there wasn’t much ambiguity. Even the stuff I had barely encountered before - mainly the questions about Native Americans and 1940s demographics - I was able to arrive at through process of elimination. Overall, easier than I expected.

Free response is a different story altogether. I’m a good writer in general, but I’m terrible at writing timed essays, whatever the subject. The reason is that I write extremely slowly: I’m too concerned with making the essay seem articulate as opposed to just cramming in the words. I spend way too much time on the introduction, even though I’m willing to bet most AP graders don’t even bother to look at it. I think carefully about each sentence before I put it down on paper, trying to figure out which combination of words sounds the most natural. I hesitate, and therefore I finish last. Or rather, I don’t even finish:

I only answered two of the free response questions. The DBQ and question 5. Didn’t touch 2 or 3 at all. No outline, no thesis statement, nothing. I simply didn’t have time.

And with the DBQ, I’m not even sure if you can say that I finished: my third body paragraph (ostensibly about racial/political divisions and Watergate) is only about five lines long. My first paragraph, however, about Vietnam and other foreign policy issues, is more than a page long, and the second paragraph (stagflation/oil crisis) was about half that.

My other essay about African American movements had its own problems: didn’t mention Garvey at all (didn’t have time, confined the 1890s-1920s discussion to DuBois and Washington), and I only spent a few sentences in the introduction comparing the two time periods. Most of the essay was spent comparing the major leaders within the two time periods. I wasn’t sure how they expected us to compare the goals and strategies of two diverse movements that had their own divisions over goals and strategies.

My question is: how much will the imbalance harm the score of my DBQ, which was otherwise pretty well-written with a lot of outside information? And what are my chances of getting a 5 if I completely skipped one of the essays?

Sorry for writing so much, just wanted to get all my thoughts down somewhat clearly.

I wrote about the public unrest(mostly college students) and as a result Vietnamization took place. I also talked about waterate my lai the pentagon papers ho chi Minh trail, bombing of Cambodia and laos, and some others.and the viet cong. Does
This seem strong to u guys?
I also talked about the tet offensive. I analyzed them all I used all but one doc, thesis was okay/bad. I think essay was strong. Do u think that essay could be 7/8?

Does anyone think I can still get a 5 if I didn’t include conclusions for any of my essays???

What outside info could you use for 2?

VA 50 Acres/indentured servants
Lead to a lot of land, which lead to plantations
Wanted cheap workers, indentured servants
With the plantains came the triangle trade and slavery
Slave trade would be outlawed and some slaves were set freee in the rev

That pretty much sums mine up. I guess you could use bacons and stono, but they don’t seem like necessities.

@Genericana I think it’s still possible to get a 5 even without doing an entire essay, especially if you got a 79 out of 80 on the multiple choice.
