2011 January SAT: Critical Reading

99% sure it was self satisfied in the grandma one and conversational for the tone of the 2nd passage in the satchel paige one

the issue is that the question was talking about passage 1 not passage 2. it was saying how is passage 1 in comparison to passage 2. passage 1 was far more scholarly.

I put irrelevant bc wasnt he trying to explain the flaws and how it didnt relate to results??

also got anomolous

it was self satisfied, conversational, and to protect cherished beliefs, they were not fatalist (feeling the could not changed their future) it was talking about the past

@wastelande that swhat i thought

@dfekfnln
whatever

that’s what i put…but i was between that one the one that said “she didn’t bother learning writing”

It was passage 2 compared to passage 1. sorry annoyingaakash.

what were some pain questions? those were tough. what was the modern research/irreverent to the theory question?
can someone check my post and/or compile sentence completion?

what is the “self-satisfied” one? i’m pretty sure i put resignation because that’s what you do when you sigh. or am i talkinga bout the wrong question?

@ ivy, i got the same exact answers as you

Some of the pain ones were like

The brain wasn’t involved?

@Ivycraze, I checked your post and it seems to be correct, except I disagree with the cherished beliefs one.

great -3 now

  1. idyllic
  2. why it was ironic
  3. conversational
    is -3 770?

@ivycraze: the question was something like
“this passage is about…”
and it was for the pain one.

a) using modern research for an old idea
…i don’t remember the rest

that was the one about “selective memory”, I thought it was right because they did it so they wouldn’t damage the cherished beliefs

I thought it was using modern research to UPDATE, which was a different choice than the one about supporting the old idea

can anyone remember what the other choices for that rays question is? i’m trying to remember if i put a different answer or not…

so one option was mercurial, anomalous, and what else?

violin, the brain was involved… i think i put C on that one

@kebalken – Fatalism - The doctrine that all events are predetermined by fate and are therefore unalterable.

So I don’t think it’s that, because the passage never made reference to anything about fatalism. But it was clearly protecting cherished beliefs since the passage specifically mentioned that the whole family had a tendency to wipe away or alter bad memories and remember only good ones (I’m paraphrasing there).

what were the answer choices to the “why it was ironic”
