2011 January SAT: Critical Reading

-4 to -6 will be -200. Jkay.
uhm 740-700

This was a hard CR apparently, and as most easier CRs go, -4-6 is like 730? I’m sure this will be at least 750 for -6

Edit: Okay. Maybe not.

Hey what was the consensus for why the goat living to be 27 was ironic? For the Paige one?
I put that it was mocking the research about his age.
…or was it ironic becasue he doesn’t know his own age?

does anyone remember the question about the dancer and the extrovert?

I put (for the goat) that it was poking fun…which goes along with the “ultimately trivial” answer.
I don’t think any of the other answers made sense to me. Mocking what research? I didn’t feel like any of the evidence presented in the passage was based on research.

@ littlepenguin

Yeah I put ultiamtely trivial, but the question about the goat had 2 close options 1)mocking people’s research about his age 2) laughing because they know the goats’ age but not his own…
…which one was the poking fun one?

@m00nlight22 I put the one about social situations.

Haha, a lot of new CCers after today’s SAT, I see.

I think I’ve counted 4 or 5 ;]

6 wrong 740 5 wrong 750 4 wrong 770
Average 4 wrong 750 5 wrong 740 6 wrong 730
I think the curve will be at least average.

^
What source is that “average” curve from?

This was posted early, but I can’t confirm the authenticity of it.

There was an option that said “poking fun at …” something
I’m sorry I can’t remember the details, but “poking fun” was definitely in one of the choices.
Also, it couldn’t be “laughing because they know the goats’ age but not his own…” because they didn’t know the goat’s age. He didn’t even know the goats age. He pretty much threw a random age out there to (I believe) poke fun at those who tried to pinpoint his own age.

I actually put something about physical pain for the comparison between the dancer and the extroverts. I didn’t find any evidence talking about how dancers’ social situations were particularly extroverted, although I could be missing something…

Wait, what was the question about the goats?

its authentic. confirmed it with old CC posts and practice tests with curves from Q and A from tutor.

can we get a consensus on it please?

Can anyone explain why that question about the guy’s age was “ultimately trivial” and not “universally amusing”?

A bit out of date but official: http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/SAT_Raw_Score_to_Scaled_Score_Ranges.pdf

It’s trivial because he repeatedly made fun of the fact that people were arguing about his age. It’s not universally amusing since that’s an absolute statement and thus is not proved in the passage

what are your curve predictions?
i think nicer than october 2010 so a nice good curve.
