I think “recurrent phenomenon” was correct for whatever question that was.

What about “Why was the theory perceived as so novel?” or something?

i want to say it was “instance of recurrent phenomenon”
but this time, i’m not 100% positive :P

@aiginqinf

The question was Why did the gate theory prove shocking?

The answer was because it was so novel.

the question was actually something like “why was the theory so shocking”
the answer was that because its strategies were so novel, or something like that.

Why wasn’t the answer to one of the questions in the Descartes passage (i dont remembe the specific one XD) “irreverent to the theory”? He was criticizing how it doesn’t really address all the situations and the new theory was generally accepted.

The passages tone wouldn’t have been describe as critical though. It was more about how the gate theory improved Descartes theory, which isn’t all that irreverent.

It was the one about why it was so shocking, and you’re referring to the answer that it “diminished Descartes’s reputation” or something along those lines.

But it can’t that, because the article never said anything about his reputation. Additionally, it wouldn’t have damaged his reputation because he was still so close to being correct over 1000 years before, when they didn’t have all the technology and stuff we do.

Thanks guys. I put novel for the “why was it so shocking,” but looked back at the passage like 10 times.

^^I see.

What would supporter of the 2nd theory, gate theory (not Descartes) say to the end questions? Was it new devices haven’t been developed so they can’t find the problems OR stressing? I said new devices since it’s the supporters of the 2nd theory. They could NOT answer why the brain feels pain with stimulus, so they are not going to say stressing.
