anyone going to washu dbbs interviews? they booked my flight but didn’t mention anything about hotel and getting from airport to the hotel. was i supposed to book my own hotel? and take a taxi from the airport to the hotel on my own? i am totally confused now and the interview is this weekend! (if you haven’t noticed this is my first interview so i have no idea what to expect)

rejection from Stanford today by mail.

bombardior: My D went through this last year (now at Stanford). No school had you book your own hotel. There should be an administrative contact in your interview material and you can shoot them an email. Cabs (if necessary) were always reimbursed. However, about half the schools met her at the airport. I’m sure you’ll do fine.

So far, I haven’t had to do anything except book my flights. The only interview I’ve been on so far had a car service pick me up from the airport (and take me back to catch my flight home), and it looks like the same thing will probably happen at my next interview. Usually, cabs are reimbursed. I panicked and double-checked about a hotel with my next program because I hadn’t heard anything, but they had already booked a room for me. So no worries!

Epic blizzard hitting Chicago tomorrow. Perfect. Just perfect.

Never gonna make it to Duke on Wednesday. Grrrrr

And people wonder why I only applied to schools in moderate climates. Hate this weather.

@WindSlicer

Yeah, I saw that
We’re not getting anything epic in Boston, just more snow. Again.

Anyone visiting Massachusetts for visits, I’m sorry to tell you, but yes: the weather here is really that bad. And yet for some reason I didn’t think to apply anywhere with nice weather!

I’m not much of a flier, and I’m wondering if any more seasoned travelers have any idea how likely a flight cancellation is if your flight is the morning after the epic snowstorm ends. I’m leaving O’Hare on Thursday for San Francisco and the legendary snowstorm is supposed to end Wednesday (Thur is supposed to be clear and sunny but cold). I’m wondering if there’s any chance I’ll make out out. My ticket also says “Seat assignment restricted to check in”. I’m told that means that I have a seat but it gets assigned at check-in, but I’m a little concerned that I might get dropped.

If only grad schools held interviews in May…

harvard is allowing me to arrive a day earlier cause we may be getting a blizzard over here… so just call the schools and arrange with them

Hey guys, sorry to interrupt all the interview/weather talk. I was just wondering if anyone has heard recently from UCSD BMS? I called about 2 weeks ago and they said they were still reviewing applications, but I haven’t heard anything or called since. Just wondering if anyone else has heard anything or called them more recently and has any info he/she would like to share. Thanks!

@tnnsplyr88, i also applied to ucsd bms and i haven’t heard anything

I received an acceptance letter via email from Purdue on 1-27-2011. I thought it was just an interview invite until I went back to look just now and it is a formal acceptance letter. I must inform them of my decision by April 15. The campus Recruitment Visitation is 3/3-3/5.

Hey everyone, if you want to look up stats about your program gathered by the National Research Council, the spreadsheet has been uploaded up here:

for those concerned about weather, you can check on your airlines website and it will tell you which airports can have people reschedule their flights because of the storm. Its been well publicized so I would imagine most schools are preparing for having a few people stranded. I say if you know you’re not going to be able to fly out (say if you live in Chicago) contact the admin. secretary that is making all the arrangements and see if either you can fly in a day early, or can reschedule your interview.

Yay, first acceptance! UMichigan PiBS in Microbiology and Immunology! =)
It feels good to know I least have somewhere to go in the Fall.

If anyone on here is waiting for oceanography, UW-Seattle is meeting to look at apps this week, and interviews will likely be out next week.

I was just at WashU a couple weekends ago. They booked my hotel and a student picked me up from the airport. If I was you, I would just email them back and ask about transportation.

Congrats on acceptances guys!
How did it go over the weekend at UM PIBS?

biology123 - I totally agree about having questions ready - coming from a first year grad student hosting these weekends - we want you to talk! Have fun, too much quiet makes us sad. But don’t think you have to just talk science when hanging out with the grad students, just be a normal social young person (asking questions about the program is good too. We are there to help you be informed about your decision, so ask us for advice, our experiences, etc. Take advantage of the weekend!)

Hello everyone, just a quick question about interviews – would you know how many more applicants are invited to interviews than the actual places available? I mean what are your chances once you’ve been invited? Thanks

^There’s no general answer – some programs accept basically everybody they interview, and others don’t.
