2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

@rabbitstew at BU or BU med school? the BUSM cell bio visitation day will most definitely have interviews…

BUSM - I’m 99% sure it’s a straight up interview, but I was optimistically hoping that the “recruitment” thing meant I could relax a bit. On the bright side I’ve already met one of my interviewers and she’s really lovely.
My partner got accepted into MIT very easily, so now, as my mother so kindly put it, it’s up to me to get into a Boston area school. No pressure.

@Compubio

I have same questions as you. I am also waiting to hear from MIT CSBi. But I have seen postings of interviews and rejections for the same on gradcafe website. So probably I am waitlisted too! But would really like to know what’s happening.

USF Cancer Biology interview invite today.

Wow, just had a close call with one of my “safety” schools. They had told me that they would cover the travel expenses so I booked the flight a couple weeks ago (for an interview next week). I just received an email with the itinerary AND a note saying that they would reimburse me for up to a couple hundred! Good thing it was just shy of that (if it doesn’t include the hotel arrangements I’m screwed), but just something to keep in mind for those of you who were told they would be reimbursed.

What do you guys think? Kind of bad on their part to tell me a week before the interview about what they would actually cover?

Yea, that doesn’t seem very good on their part, but I guess it would be good practice to inquire as to the maximum amount that a school would cover in the future if they are not upfront about it.

Accepted via phone call to Immunology - PIBS at Michigan!

Congrats! I’m still waiting to here about acceptances/rejections from UCLA Access/UCSD Biology program!

Getting ready today and tomorrow for UChicago’s recruitment weekend from Thursday to Saturday! I’m super excited; my first interview wasn’t the “real” recruitment weekend, so this is the first legit weekend for me. And UChicago is currently my first choice, now that I figure Harvard is out.

Anyone else going to Chicago this week? Or leaving from Boston? It’ll be fun to go from cold to colder …

Has anyone heard from UVA’s Biomedical Sciences PhD or SUNY Buffalo’s Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences PhD??

Thanks

@Phirah

I’ll be at Chicago next weekend as well, I’m really looking forward to it. What department/s are you looking at? Have you heard anything about who you’ll be interviewing with?

Has anyone been accepted to Hopkins BCMB?

Anyone going to UConn this weekend, what is the small session group? anyone knows

Is anybody coming to Harvard BBS this weekend? I will be at the dessert reception on Saturday night – please come say hi to me if you see me! I would love to meet some of you in person.

Immuno, my boyfriend is going to the UConn interviews this weekend. Look out for him, he’ll be the tall, skinny, nervous-looking one! :slight_smile: But sorry, neither of us is sure what the small group sessions are.

@mendel After waiting somewhat patiently (yeah, right) for over a week, my son finally got an acceptance call tonight…about 9:45 PM EST. So the calls are finally going out.

He’s thrilled! One more school to interview at the weekend of Feb 18-19 and then the hard work of deciding which school to attend. While he liked Hopkins a lot (apparently they really know how to present their program well), he wasn’t too thrilled with Baltimore.

@molliebatmit

I will be at Harvard BBS this weekend!

@geneticsdad - thanks! still haven’t heard… I didn’t like baltimore either :(

Just got in Penn CAMB program!

@geneticsdad

I’m waiting to hear back from a different Johns Hopkins program (their real interview weekend is this coming weekend), and while I loved the program, I’m also not really thrilled about Baltimore. Location is going to be a huge factor in my eventual decision, so I’m taking cities pretty seriously.

@ZWEILER

I’m interviewing with Immunology, which I’m extremely excited about. I think I’m going to find out who I’m interviewing with sometime tonight. How about you?

@Phirah

I’m interviewing with Human Genetics, but I’m still deciding between that and Genomics. I’m sure I’ll have plenty of time for that later. I talked to someone in the department about the interview schedule, she said she was finishing it up. I would love to hear tonight, I’m getting pretty antsy waiting to hear which professors I’ll be seeing.
