2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

has anyone heard back from UNC BBSP. I am being neurotic and just interviewed on the 5th and haven’t heard back anything yet.

@mendel: Which sub-program did you apply to at Penn? Was it the program chair who emailed you? I’m anxiously awaiting hearing back.

accepted to UC Irvine CMB!
interviewed this past weekend

a lot of people got the UCSD BMS reject on friday morning btw. including me :(

actually just got the acceptance call a few minutes ago

@biology123

Congrats! Are you considering attending? I have a couple POIs of interest there so it is definitely on my “short” list! :)

Is anyone going to the Mayo interview this Friday? It’s my first interview and I just got my itinerary and I have 7 half hour interviews in one afternoon. I was just wondering is that the average number of interviews for most schools? Sort of freaking me out since I am flying straight to UW Seattle for another interview…

UCSD had 8 x 40 minute interviews over two days. 5 the first day, 3 the second. UCLA had 5 interviews in one day. 7 seems like a lot for one day, but the half hour will fly past I’m sure.

@c12ystal

I’ve had everything from 3 in one day (GSK) to 11 in one day (Cold Spring Harbor). UCLA had 4-6 in one day. 7 seems like it would be a bit on the high end, but not abnormal. They will fly by, don’t worry. More than half of my interviews consisted of profs telling me how awesome their research was, rather than the other way around.

Accepted to U. Penn CAMB! :)

@c12ystal

At UAB I had 8-40 minute interviews and at UGA I had 8-30 minute interviews so as far as I have seen that would be about par.

Thanks for the input, feel much better now. I guess I have to get through the first one and it’ll probably cruise on after that.

Thanks

Did Northwestern IGP tell you their last round of invitations were going out that day? I’m still waiting to hear back from them… guess that means it’s a rejection :(

Anyone who interviewed at UMich PIBS this past weekend hear back yet?

@overcast

I was accepted to GGR - Genetics and Gene Regulation. Doug Epstein emailed me.

@sirtuin
And you’ll come say hi to me, right? And blast me with every single one of the great questions you’ve come up with to evaluate potential labs? :)

Weill Cornell rejections are out! Well… for me that is :P

@IAmBiophysics

Looks like UMich PIBS sent out acceptances to Immunology and Micro recruits. No word on others.

^^ Just from what I saw on Gradcafe and here…

Has anyone gotten an interview for UT-Houston Biomedical Sciences past Feb 13-15 weekend? or acceptance?

Ive seen only a couple of people say they got an interview for that date and none past that, so just curious because i still have not gotten one and I know they have 3 more interview weekends.

@molliebatmit

Yeah, I’ll say hi if I know who you are. I won’t ask you all the questions. It takes a long time to run through the majority of them, and it’s tough to ask them in a crowded bar with loud music playing, which is the type of venue the two schools I’ve interviewed at have used for meeting grad students. I only do the full list for the labs I really care about, and even then it’s hard. Other than those, I just ask general questions then insert a few of the tougher ones from the list.
