<p>As there doesn’t seem to be a thread for us non-engineering/biosci types, I guess I’ll start one. Just heard back from my first school today!</p>

<p>Research Experience: Lead author of a University of Idaho Extension [url=<a href=“Publications | University of Idaho Extension”>Publications | University of Idaho Extension]report[/url</a>] on the accomplishments of a multi-million-dollar grant-funded rural community development program.</p>

<p>Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Dean’s List (3.81 GPA), Spring 2010 (improvement trend FTW) and a wide array of regional and national journalism awards.</p>

<p>Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Interning with the Alaska Region USDA Forest Service since September, where I’m developing outreach strategies to increase public involvement in recreation planning and working as an interpretive park ranger. Founded and operated a multimedia/social media sports blog for my college newspaper.</p>

<p>Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for a freshman-level survey course on mass media history (Led group discussions, conducted exam reviews, graded papers.) Great letters of rec from professors (including director of j-school attesting to my academic turnaround.)</p>

<p>My “hook” is that I’m proposing to research how parks, forests, etc. can use social media tools such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to connect with visitors and deliver interpretive messages. It’s a hot topic in the field and the skillset I possess is in demand. I expect to be funded.</p>

<p>Accepted by the University of Idaho today! No direct support, but there was a strong suggestion that external grants will be available through a co-located cooperative Federal research unit.</p>

<p>On Cloud Nine right now - UI is a very prestigious program in the field.</p>

<p>Two more admits: Clemson and Indiana University. Funding TBD.</p>

<p>That makes four acceptances, four applications pending, zero rejections. Even though I don’t have a nailed-down, funded slot yet… I feel exceedingly lucky to have so many options on the table.</p>

<p>Called up my POI to check on an application… accepted at SUNY-College of Environmental Science and Forestry.</p>

<p>I’m five-for-five and still in a state of shock. Totally did not expect this level of interest/support from grad schools. Difficult, but happy, choices await.</p>

<p>Oh well, 6/7 with some great programs. I’m happy overall…bummed though cause my significant other will most likely be studying in boston/NYC :/</p>

Waiting to Hear: Colorado State University</p>

<p>Even though communications programs are too new to have much prestige or reputation associated with them, Texas is a really great school with an awesome program. I can’t really imagine a scenario where CSU is the better choice. I started as a Grade-A slacker who finished 2 years community college with a ~2.8 GPA, so being here feels pretty good.</p>

<p>Got a call from my POI at Missouri - accepted, and he’s putting in for grants to fund me. Still haven’t been rejected anywhere, 6/6. Unreal.</p>

<p>Mustang, when you withdrew from UCSB, what does “withdraw” mean? Does it mean since you got into your first choice, you decided to cancel your application before they gave you a decision?</p>

<p>Yeah, I was more interested in the other schools I had been accepted to so I informed them that I was no longer interested and wished to withdraw my application before they had emailed acceptances so that they didn’t potentially waste an acceptance on me.</p>

<p>I was accepted to CSU San Marcos for the MA Psychology program. Still waiting to hear back from CSU Chico and Fulleton. Not sure whether or not to wait for the other programs or just take the spot at San Marcos.</p>

<p>Accepted with full funding (tuition + $13,000 stipend) at the University of Maine. Now I know I won’t have to take out student loans!</p>
