Bio majors-post your stats please :)

UCLA and Berkeley have roughly the same competitiveness in the admissions process. Berkeley tends to favor more well-rounded applicants, while UCLA focuses more on the hard numbers and gets more applicants. Even so, Berkeley has a higher average admitted GPA.

Ugh I have chem lab at 4 on Monday. Now I’m thinking about ditching it just to stalk this thread and the admissions site lmao.

nick-even for transfer students? ^^^^^^^^

Which part?

If you’re talking about the well-rounded thing… Yes, even for transfers. ECs, etc, matter less for transfers than for freshmen at all UCs, but Berkeley gives them a little more consideration than UCLA does.

Nick - why do ECs matter less for transfers than for freshman applicants?

Looking through last years thread of accepted people has my so excited for monday!!
Everyone is so happy!!

I have a microbiology lab Monday afternoon. I think I might bail and have a date with my computer instead :). Ehh tough choice.

Monday!!! I can’t wait.

Californiaaaaa HEREEE WE COMMEEEEEEE

I’m not entirely sure, but it’s not something that’s disputed–UC admissions reps are open about it. My guess is that there is less consistency between high schools than there is between CCCs, so they focus less on GPA for high school students to compensate.

Another possibility is that UCs view college coursework as inherently different from high school coursework–that is, CCC performance is more likely to be a predictor of UC performance than high school coursework is. I tend to agree with this… From what I remember of high school, much of it was focused on the daily grind, rather than producing original ideas.

The final thing to note is that the most important non-academic factor for transfers is major-related work experience. Unless you have a genuine love for student government or chess club, I wouldn’t bother with it. Intern for a law firm or a hospital if you’re interested in those fields. Find a job at a local manufacturer, maybe, if you’re into the sciences or engineering. That’s what they most like to see.

Thanks, man. That was super helpful actually.

darksaber - i just looked at my graded test again and it was actually a 166. of course i would remember it to be higher than it actually was -________-…But damn, i’d love to get closer to Harvard’s 25th
my dad (the proctor, lol) was actually really surprised too haha. he said he was expecting like a 160 tops. the logic crap really freakin killed me though. i’m hoping to save enough money to get myself into an lsat class by next year to improve!
…now only if my terrible procrastination habit didnt completely ruin my gpa…

Hi all, I have been religiously reading this thread for the past four days and am now definitely anxious about finally finding out if I am accepted!

If I wasn’t stressed before, I really am now. I am transferring from Los Angeles Valley College and unfortunately I applied for the Communications Studies (average accepted GPA Fall 2010 was a 3.94) and am unsure of my chances.

Here are my stats, I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback:

Again any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Good luck to all of you!

^Logic Games is the easiest section to improve. They all follow a relatively small number of patterns. Once you master the patterns you’re all set.

PowerScore’s Logic Games Bible is the standard book on the section–it’s quite good.

Ella… Lena Brown said Monday for realz?? That’s gotta be legit she is rad

ooo thanks nick. i will most deff look into that book. are you potentially law bound too??

edit: @ beatpedo…everytime i see your username i lawl. i’m sure youre not beat OR a pedo. can you explain the origin? of course, you dont have to if you dont want to :D

Yeah, if my resurrected political career croaks again.
