2011 UCLA Transfers: The Central Thread for Discussion and Decisions

asd - of course, shoot since i didn’t get in as an IDS major… i’m more than down for helping someone else get into the program for next year (cuz you know, we won’t be competing against each other, hehe). as far as GPA, both of them are important, but if you get a C in a pre-req, but still manage to maintain a strong GPA overall…i’m really not sure how that’ll affect your chances…this is something you’ll def. wanna ask an admissions rep.

@cherryvaseline
ha, the situation is actually quiet the opposite. i’ll have a 4.0 major GPA but around 3.8 overall GPA. u think it would better to have a higher major GPA or higher overall GPA?

asd-for what major?

International development studies

^ asd. i dont know, people have gotten into UCLA with higher major GPAs than overall… and vice-versa.

@cherryvaseline
ah…what do u think is better, having 2 B’s or having 1 C??

^ lol i really don’t know how admin reps look at those types of situations. sorry. you should schedule an appointment with a ucla representative at your school when you have the chance. that way when you have these really specific questions, you’ll at least have someone reliable there to answer your questions

Asd,
came to this thread by accident (was looking for Calgrant updates), but have noticed a lot of students asking about UCLA admissions and GPA. Figured everyone would have looked at this already, but if not, here are the links for Transfer & Freshman Admissions Statistics [Note: For transfers, one can also look by school, and then see the mean GPA of admitted students to their particular major]

Hope this helps. Good luck.

@ acryu9: You need to contact UCLA ASAP and let them know your situation. It is vital that you explain the circumstances that have lead to your Eng 1B drop.

To be honest, there is a strong chance that they will rescind your admit, but on the other hand there is also a possibility that they will be sympathetic to your family situation, and will perhaps allow you to take Eng 1B over the Summer instead. You do not know until to speak to them and let them know the severity of your personal situation. Admissions officers can be harsh, but they are not completely heartless.

Besides, if you don’t contact them and try to explain the problem they are going to find out anyway when you send in your transcripts, and then they are absolutely going to rescind you app. So, speak to your counselor, and get in touch with USLA as soon as possible.

English 1B is an igetc course right?

^Yes, it is.

Then I think you will most likely be rescinded. I think typically UCLA makes an exception for completing a prereq in the summer but they make it clear you need to have igetc done by the spring.

I’m not sure IGETC is a requirement for admission. If you don’t complete it you then have to fall back to the UC’s GE requirements, which might mean taking more classes.

They could–and probably will–rescind a student for withdrawing from 1B, though. That’s a fundamental course. If someone didn’t get IGETC because s/he dropped the art/music course or something, UCLA might be a bit more lenient.

@nick
do you think a I would get rescinded for a drop not relevant to my major? i completed igetc, all prereqs, and have well over 60 units

^You’re much more likely to be okay. Still, you need to let UCLA know. Contact them ASAP.

Does UCLA have a day for admitted transfers in May? I’m going to decision day at UC Davis on the 13th and am wondering UCLA has anything similar as I don’t really want to make the trip down there just for a 1.5 hour walk around the campus tour.

AFAIK, no. Their first Bruin Day (same idea as Decision Day or UCSD’s Transfer Admit Day) was this year, for Freshmen only. It was held before transfer decisions were even released.

Make a day of it. Sit in on a few classes, take the tour, walk around the library, explore Westwood (and try out Diddy Riese).

Admit Day for UCLA is May 14. :D

I found this [UCLA Transfer Student Support](http://www.transfers.ucla.edu/) but I am not sure if that transfer day is similar to what the other schools have. I really hope it isn’t that day as I can’t go!
