The AXA Achievementsm Scholarship offers college scholarships of $10,000 and $25,000 to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. The scholarships are sponsored by the AXA Foundation, in association with U.S. News & World Report.

The 2012 program will be accepting applications from September 1, 2011 through December 1, 2011. Your application must be one of the first 12,000 submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. CST on December 1, 2011 to be considered. Apply early!

•Be current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2012-2013 academic year. •Demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities.

Fifty-two (52) students, known as AXA Achievers, will each receive a $10,000 scholarship. One recipient will be selected from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

Does anyone know how many applicants the porgram received this year?

The program received 12,000 applications, which at that point closed the program for this year, and prior to the deadline. This information appeared on the AXA ASP website.

FYI,

Mr. VC

Thanks. Are they still looking to reply by 12/31?

I believe they notified the finalists today?

My son was notified that he was a finalist today.

What was your son’s achievement? Just out of curiosity.

Sorry, he doesn’t like me to post any details about him, but he raised over $30,000 for a charity that is very meaningful to him.

does anyone know how many finalists are chosen out of the 12,000?

I did not make it into the finalist competition because I believe my achievement was nothing compared to what the past and present winners/competitors are doing. I raised fifty dollars and donated that to FeedingAmerica which ended up being 50 pounds of food approximately. I feel like this scholarship is unfair to those who are doing small but impactful things in their community. You see people raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations and even starting their own. I have no way of competing with that. None the less, I still congratulate those who made it to the semifinalist competition and wish those good luck in winning the scholarship.

is there a second round of finalists for the scholarship? I was just notified again on being a finalist for the scholarship and that I have to send in another form for scholarship consideration?

I think that is for the axa community scholarship. The community one had a deadline in January I believe, so they’re notifying finalists I guess for that!

ohh just checked again! yup that’s the one! thanks for the clarification. when do the scholarship recipients of the axa achievement scholarship receive notice, if anyone knows?

I believe we hear back in early march…

Last year results came back the 3rd (first thursday of March)… I’m hoping for something this week or early next week! Waiting on AXA achievement…

Mine came today

Congrats!! In mail or email? What state?

thanks, it came in the mail. small envelope, so don’t cower from opening it if your letter isn’t a huge package. prefer not to say which state, one that i presume has little competition. midwest.

"Dear _________,

I am delighted to let you know that you have been chosen as the recipient of the 2012…"

It seems to be signed by hand (though maybe not), which i must say is quite a gesture after receiving the, say, 200 computerized signatures over the past two years from various colleges.

Haha that’s incredible congratulations!!! I am from west coast state with crazy competition (I’m sure you can guess which one)… I’ll be looking in the mail tomorrow with hope… But no high expectations
