2012 Fall Statistics

Some information about students is already available, including Fall GPA.

Wow I can’t believe my GPA is higher than the average :o

Wow it is that low? Kind of worried now.

That seems pretty low. I mean if thats the average (50 percent right?) then that means that people have in the high 2.0 range

Maybe i am wrong though

helloigotout
Do you know that minimum GPA for Communication Honors Program is 3.3? It’s you who was worrying about graduate school, right?

You ought to read the fine print. The Freshman cumulative average does not include first time freshman.

Holy smokes, the average GPA for all freshmen students for Fall 2012 was a 2.82. That is much lower than I would have expected.

Thanks for posting that link Ya Ya, it is really informative.

lisiatc

The fine print is below. What do they mean by 12th class day?

“Notes: Grade point averages (GPAs) listed are current GPAs for undergraduate students enrolled as of the 12th Class Day. Students who have not yet established a GPA as of the 12th Class Day,
such as first-time freshmen, are not included in average cumulative GPA calculations.”

The 12th day of class was Sept 14 when the official census was taken. First time freshman for this fall could not have established a GPA by then, so they were not counted in average cumulative GPA calculations. The only freshman it included would be those who started in the Spring or Summer semester of 2012.

Well, then with these freshmen included average GPA could be even worse than 2.82.:)

Oh my, wait so what freshmen does this count as? Still…I have a 3.33 and I thought that was bad :(

Here is percent of dismissed for academic reasons/dropped out students (available for 2011 only) whose GPA will not be included in any future statistics.
6.8 - 9.1% for freshmen in different years.
17.1-19.3% after 6 years.

Here are similar numbers for transfer students

4 years graduation rate doesn’t look good.
And I believe it means that the above GPA includes transfer students, summer students and freshmen from previous year who did not become sophomores. Taking into consideration how counselors are pushing 12 credits hours per semester instead of 15 I would not be surprised if the number of these students is significant.

Here is average course load by college and level (undergraduate, master, doctorate). Average for UT undergraduates is 13.41 credit hours per semester.

The highest number is 17.43 for Pharmacy doctorate. They are almost all Asians. :)

Natural Sciences GPA is lower than Engineering, wow. And Business Admin., really…?

I just found out that about 60% of my DD “freshmen” class is now sophomores and even juniors due to AP/ IB / CLEP/ dual credits.

It explains why sophomores’ GPA is so much higher than freshmen’s.

ImOnOne

Natural Sciences GPA is lower because Natural Sciences will take UGS students (internal transfer) with 2.81, and Engineering and Business Admin will not.

YaYa, i actually didnt know that. Intresting!
