2013/2014 Fall Transfer Thread

dpayan,

it means that UT felt you had extenuating circumstances and felt giving your application another look over was fair. It is a good thing, because most appeals are flat-out denied.

I was accepted yesterday after going through the appeals process to COLA with a major in Classics (first choice)! The status of my appeal never changed from “in review” but I got an email saying I needed my meningitis vaccine in order to register for classes. When I called admissions, they said I had been approved! It was changed on my initial dashboard page where it used to say I was not admitted. So make sure you check that page often! Congrats to everyone- hook em!

@kfree4: so your appeal just got approved and then you were in?

Has anyone heard from the college of education yet? If so please let me know some stats…please

Accepted to COLA Government today!
GPA: 3.9
2 essays
35 credits
Letter of Rec from former Texas Ex’s President
Was in review for a little over 2 weeks

Im super excited!!!

i was a CAP student this past year and our advisors told us repeatedly that it’s next to impossible to get admission into any school besides CNS, COLA, and UGS. i have one friend who completed CAP and got admitted into McCombs but my other friend got denied, so i mean i know it’s not impossible but i’m still nervous, I’ve already finished all my core so I don’t know what I’d do this year if I have to internally transfer. I’m applying for admission into the RTF program in the college of communications, can someone chance me please! i know my gpa is good but i’ve heard of people getting denied admission into their school regardless of gpa so if anyone knows anyone that was in my situation that would be cool!

1) Current College: UT Tyler
2) Current GPA: 4.0
3) First Choice Major/College: RTF/Communications
5) Second Choice Major/College: Economics/COLA
6) Transferable Credit Hours: 34
7)Extracurricular Activities/Recommendations/Essays:

Work: Shift leader at a local movie theater/restaurant for two years, worked closely with management to design some parts of the website and flyers, etc.

High school (senior year): Veteran on my high school drill team and co-Executive producer for our schools daily news show (broadcasting)

Recommendation/Essays: 1 recommendation from my general manager, two strong essays.

basically what are my chances of getting denied? i really don’t know what i could be missing besides actual internships i suppose, but is that enough of a reason to be denied admission? also does anyone know when the college of communication will start releasing decisions? i’m trying to stay positive with the whole, no news is good news thing, but i’m losing hope :(

Its not like they looked at your application, and said “we’ll come back to it after we look at other applications.” They would either make a decision right there and then with a yes or no. No news just means they haven’t fully looked into your application yet. Its not in some “maybe” pile.

Anjunha93,

Then why are communications majors only getting rejections and no acceptances yet? They have a pool of applicants that they have to narrow down to a quota.

I kinda agree but I feel like with a school that big with so much applications, that they will spend more time and save an application to look again later. They will probably try their best to either accept or reject unless in extenuating circumstances where they just could not decide at the time being.

Does anyone know if they are still offering transfers room contracts for on campus dorms?

@Madison18, with the incoming freshman class at a record size and the fact that freshman get priority over all transfer students and returning students for living on campus, I found myself wondering the same thing as you. So I went ahead and talked to 3 or 4 people in the department of housing and food. They tried to remain somewhat vague and they danced around giving me a real answer but one of them finally admitted that transfer students, regardless of how early they submitted their housing apps, will likely only be offered supplemental housing if anything at all… I really wouldn’t expect to get anything and I highly recommend exploring other options. Don’t put yourself in a situation where it’s July and you don’t know where you’re going to live.

@acceptmepls Thanks so much… I’ll start looking into off campus housing.

Is supplemental housing really that bad? I honestly don’t care where I live as long as it is somewhere with a roof over my head.

what about education?

So I got accepted yesterday and got my financial aid award today. My EFC is $5952 and aside from around $6000 combined from a transfer student grant and work-study, the rest is all loans.

Did anyone else get shafted by financial aid?

has anyone heard from the college of education yet?

supplemental housing is not Horrible watch the video about it on UT Austin’s housing website. you basically live in a lounge converted to a living space with 3-4 people. still have everything found in a dorm.

Well, how “bad” it is depends on the person. That is all based on personal preference and opinion. I think the question is this: why would one pay roughly the same amount of money to live in supplemental housing on campus if one can put that amount of money toward living in an off-campus dorm or apartment and having more privacy/luxuries?

So I’m guessing nobody has heard back today yet?
