Is it just my perception or were there less posts this year than last on CC regarding prep school applications and/or admissions ?
Also, it seems to me ( may be skewed) that more applicants were demonstrating stats of SSAT in the 60th and 70th percentile s ( more realistic ) than last year. Not only were there more posters with these stats but respondents seemed ( rightfully so) to give hope to admission even to some HADES schools! Last year the posters were ridiculous in their comments and their stats! How many 95+% can there be ( yes I know 5%) . Last year if you were in the upper 80th % you were casted into wait list land or far worse! This year seems far more realistic and honest ( and less arrogant ) does anyone else feel the same or have I become immune to CC?

You are NOT imagining it.

I spoke w an AO this year who said this is going to be an “interesting” admissions cycle because the SSAT scores were re-normed recently, resulting in lower SSAT percentiles.

I noticed the exact same thing (and definitely fewer students/parents reporting in here)… it is interesting to say the least

Just looking at last years acceptances/declines there were more than 140 posters… the official 2013 has around 30 but not everyone is putting their info in the official result thread.

This year, percentiles were not just based on grade and gender, but nationality as well. So an 8th grade girl from China would have a different percentile than an American 8th grade girl with the same 300-800 scaled score. I don’t know why it would adversely effect US kids though. My daughter took it this year and last. The only thing she noticed was that the math was a bit different. Then again, she didn’t really pay very close attention since she hadn’t even thought about the test since she took it last year. I can’t really compare her percentile because pretty much anything over 2300 will be 99th or close to it, no matter what cohort.

@Neatoburrito You sure anything over 2300 would be on the 99th percentile? That’s weird because I got 2270 and I’m on the low 80’s

No, I’m not sure at all! Are you an international student? I have no idea how the new cohorts effected international kids. I suspect that it caused them the most decline since it is such an elite group who apply from overseas.

I got a 2247 on the SSATs and it was a 95 percentile, if that helps. I’m an Asian-American girl who lives in America…eighth grade. :)
