Hey guys,
I was just wounding if I should say my brother won the scholarship in 2008 because they want to know.
Will it hurt my chances of winning if I put his name? or should I lie?
Thanks.

Worst question of the day.
No, you should not lie.
There’s no reason to be so hostile ! I was only asking
I don’t think Madison85 was being hostile; the response you got was honest and emphatic, and in my opinion was perfectly appropriate based on the question that you asked.
Why do you think they asked the question if it is not important information?
Should I lie? Should I plagiarize? Should I steal?
What mature adult does not know the answers to these questions?
Circumstances can change when it comes to whether you lie or steal. And I really needed to know because I do not want my scholarship put in jeopardy because of one of my siblings inning in the past. I’m sorry if I offended you or MiddKid86
OK, so we tell you it matters. Then you lie and win. Then they find out and strip you of the award. All the colleges hear about it and decline to admit someone who cannot fulfill basic issues of integrity. See how it works?

Maybe lying about your brother will be like shooting yourself in the foot. The scholarship is for high achieving and financially needy students. If your brother got it in 2008, it could show that your family has been needy a long time. Maybe they want a reader-interest story about two siblings who were both smart and strived to overcome odds.
It looks like they normally announce the semifinalists in September - so did you already lie?
@Madison85 posted “worst question of the DAY.” You got off easy.
Really? What is the price of your integrity? If I give you an ice cream cone, will you lie? How about a quarter? Congressman Cunningham made up a price list- he knew exactly the price of his integrity (you can look him up in the Federal Penitentiary for accepting bribes; which is only getting help selecting whom to help, after all, what’s the big deal?). You may get to hang out with him if you choose to compromise your integrity to gain advantage.
It is unethical and immoral. Period.
I’m truly sorry if I offended any of you. I ended up putting my brothers name on my application so I am now waiting for the results.
Good luck. I think posters were just being candid in their replies, which can ultimately be more helpful than excessive diplomacy. Let us know how you do.
