SATII: Chemistry-760; Math 2-750
(I am retaking all of the tests listed above–90% sure scores will improve)

cont’d…
SATII: BioM-750; USH-700; WorldH-670
GPA: 4.0 unweighted
RANK: 1 of about 160

COURSEWORK: I took the toughest courses at my small-town high school; however, this only consists of 3 AP classes (Eng. Lang., Lit., and Calculus)

Extra-curriculars:
-Tennis
-treasurer of our NHS chapter
-Captain of quiz bowl team
-Junior Engineering and Technical Society
-Student council member
-Student council president
-Student Anti-tobacco mentoring program
-Mentoring young kids
-Shadowing doctor
-Commended National Merit scholar (probably)
-U-Cincy Summer Honors Institute in Medicine

I’m thinking about the following schools:

-Columbia
-Stanford
-Harvard (just to see)
-Northwestern
-Michigan (I live 15 minutes from the MI border; does this mean anything? I have heard sometimes in other schools if you are in a bordering county you have a lower OOS fee.)
-Ohio State (in-state)

Eh. Not bad, but not outstanding for these schools. Push the small town thing and you might hit some niche appeal. Raise your test scores if you can.

Your ECs lack focus. Sure, you’re smart; plenty of kids are. But you need to “brand” yourself and show that you know what you’re doing in a particular field, not just spreading yourself so thin over multiple arenas.

Thoughts:
-Columbia - Mid Reach
-Stanford - High Reach
-Harvard - High Reach
-Northwestern - Match
-Michigan - In
-Ohio State - In

If it’s 8,000 or less, (preferably rural), I mean that you should play up the fact that you’re from a small town, either in your application/essay or in interviews. Colleges will eat it up, as it further diversifies you, and distinguishes you from the herd, so to speak.

Small towns - rural ones specifically - seem to rarely send students to Ivies and the like, so this would make you unique in the application process

wow 15 mins from MI border?
me too I live in Toledo

OSU yeah ur definitely in…
Michigan I’m sure ur in too
Northwestern…definitely
Im totally agreeing with pewpewpew
but the ivy league and stanford?
u never know
from what I’ve seen, all ur ECs and academics look like a regular Ivy applicant
but amazing essays really do the trick

Chance you!!
and very very very sincerely, Good Luck!!!
