This is my guess based on what I have read. Each club gets to send 3 boys and 3 females to the district level if they have that many applicants. Each district sends 3 boys and 3 girls to the state level. For example in NC, we have 4 districts. My guess is that 12 girls and 12 boys advanced to the state. Last year, NC sent 4 boys and 4 girls to the nationals. I assume that number is based on Elks membership for that state because CA gets a lot more. Anyone else have another idea?

@ nicestudent - -My son’s email came at 2 pm EST on Monday confirming he was moving on to states.

Just found this thread. DD received email yesterday that she advanced to the state level (MA). She hadn’t received any prior emails about local or district so that was a nice surprise!

Still haven’t received any notification (be it positive or negative) about whether or not I’ve advanced to the state level. Continuing to wait, here in Texas.

Got my email yesterday, and am advancing. Here’s what I’m wondering: in the past threads, there’s been mention of a California-Hawaii stage of competition – is this the “State” level that I’m going to be sent to? (It hardly seems fair to be bunched up with a bunch of Californians if it’s supposed to be on the state level.)

Okay, someone catch me up here. So there are 3 boys and 3 girls picked from each lodge to move on to the district level. How many to they pick from each district to advance to the state level? Sorry, probably seems like a dumb question. Oh, and I’m a state finalist from PA.

Congrats to everyone who made it to the next level. My son didn’t make it to State (MN) but we’re anxious to hear from the lodge if he won any money from them. Every little bit helps. Good luck everyone!

Just received a letter today from the state committee… I didn’t make it to nationals, but I was awarded a scholarship of $500/year for 4 years from the state officer! :)

@BzyBee123- what state are you from?

Congrats BzyBee!!

Congrats, BzyBee!

My son received a letter yesterday informing him that he had been selected as a state winner for Ohio and would receive $1000, but there was no mention of the national scholarship. We’re excited about the state scholarship and are assuming this may be the end of the road for him, but the letter isn’t really clear about that. Did anyone else have a similar experience?

I thought if he was a “state winner” that means he advances to the national competition and is guaranteed the $1000 for 4 years.

This just appears to be a state award and the letter doesn’t really mention the national competition. The envelope also included a form that he has to submit to the university and an “addendum to student notification letter”. In the addendum, point G mentions that “students cannot accept more than one Ohio Elks Association Charitable Trust or Elks National Foundation Scholarship or Grant in any one academic year.” This made us think that he couldn’t get both an Ohio scholarship and a national scholarship, so he must not be moving on. In any case, we’re happy about the state scholarship. Just a little confused.

@ohiomom24- Why would they include a section stating that he can’t receive both if he isn’t up for both? I would take it the opposite way that he is going to the national competition. Either way, money is money and glad that he received something!

@mich5225 I’m from Illinois.

See that others are hearing from their individual states. Really wish I could hear something great!!!

I received a letter from the California-Hawaii Elks today. Received a $1,500 scholarship and was notified I’m a national finalist!

Congrats thesportsman24! No word here yet for my DD in Massachusetts. And I have no idea if you get any scholarship if you go to the state level but don’t go any further!

@thesportsman24- Congrats! That is exciting news. Wishing you luck as you head to the nationals!
