best of luck to all you HYPSM kids…i can’t imagine doing that many apps.
I thought 5 was a bit much

Yup, HYP, possibly S, plus some more :/

@christiansoldier—
Just curious, how tall are you? :)

HYP and then 4 to 7 more…

@Fresh101:
Kind of a random question, but about 6’3". Why?

@dan92- SAME. I’m not doing MIT/Stanford because cali is too far, and I hate math/science

I’m doing HYP, columbia, penn, duke, gtown, nyu, and UVA

What about some worst-scenarios?

Have you guys ever pondered what may happen if you get rejected into all of your reach lists? For example, the valedictorian from my high school was also the tennis team captain, orchestra concertmaster, presidents of three organizations, but was rejected into ALL of his reaches. He barely got through Swarthmore through a waitlist. Now that I’m the valedictorian for my class, I’m receiving the same pressure as did the last year’s valedictorian. Can somebody relate to this?

^ There must have been some MAJOR flaw in your old valedictorian’s application, in order for that to happen. His essays might’ve been really bad, or he might’ve had really bad interviews. Bur regardless, something really bad must have happened.

Don’t worry. :)

The 2400 from my school last year (the only one we’ve ever had) got rejected from Stanford. There’s a lot of pressure on me, as a 2400 and val and leader of a good chunk of our academic competitions, to be successful in college admissions. I feel you.

^
Especially when we’re surrounded by a gaggle Asian parents. Am I right or am I right?

Well, it depends on what you mean by that. One of the interesting things I’ve noticed is that Asian parents demand their children be more like me while white parents insist that I remind them of their own children. Since my school is pretty disconnected from college admissions above the UC level, they insist that I’ll be able to write my ticket wherever I want to go. Of course, they also insisted that the other 2400 and last year’s val would be able to go wherever they wanted, and that ended up being untrue.

That’s why I love CC’s reality-checking powers.

Am I right or am I right?
I choose the latter. :)

Damn. That’s tall for an Asian. Im wondering because i’ve met tons of smart asians and they aren’t very tall. Just wanted to see if my hypothesis was correct. I stand corrected.

Agree with you 100%. However, I don’t understand what you mean by “white parents insist that I remind them of their own children.” Clarifications?

Yes, it was the strangest fluke in our last year’s graduating class, and I believe his rejections had something to do with his essays (which I had the chance to read). The year before, 2 of our valedictorians were both accepted into Harvard with similar stats (4.00 GPA, 2400 SAT, State qualifiers, leaderships, and the like). So hopefully, my acceptance stats will be a bit more cheerful.

@Fresh: I’m only half-Asian. But my dad is full-Asian, and 6 feet tall. Anyhow, the smart Asian people at my school tend to be taller than average. Mostly hovering around 5’9" or so. I’d come to the exact opposite conclusion.

@Seattle: White parents like to say stuff like, “Oh, you should really meet Ben! You two would get along so great together, you’re both so smart!” They still think 3.3 means pretty smart.

Our val and sal both have SATs around 2000(2040 and 2080 respectively), and then me as third and the kid who’s fourth both break 2250, so it’s going to be an interesting year for our school.

If i get into yale and go to orientation, look for a blue person =D

lol@short/smart asians. actually most asians I’ve met have been pretty tall.

The val last year got rejected from several top schools…he had higher stats than me [current val], so…I guess we’ll see
I doubt my horrible essays are going to help any lol. I still can’t believe I checked the wrong essay question on my commonapp. I hope they don’t see that and be like…AUTOREJECT
:(

I can’t believe there’s almost only 2 weeks left. a month ago I wanted to know immediately, now I don’t want to know until after christmas…

haha, so after my alumni interview I realized that I’d accidentally worn ALL yaleblue&white. every single thing. I didn’t even realize it until afterwards. my interviewer probably thought I was trying too hard…

random tangent/thought? I really really really really REALLY hate people who are both crazy intelligent and crazy attractive.
the whole discussion on christiansoldier’s height reminded me of that, for some reason. it’s like…*** universe, way to be unfair! :P
