im on the semester system.
i wish they could have them though.

oh…two things

am i the only Native american on the thread?

and, I tried to join the group on facebook…so whoever handles that please let me joine :)

So considering (1) that a good majority of us are Asian and (2) the anti-AA policies towards us…
what makes Asians stand out among fellow Asians?? in terms of hooks, ECs, anything?

I just told my school to send my 1st quarter grades - I don’t know what Yale’s policy is, however. Also, I think I’m the only white SCEA-er :). Not really, but I am definitely a small minority

My plan was to out Asian the Asians with grades and test scores… It’s worth a try, eh?

I think you’ve out-Asianed pretty much everyone possible in terms of test scores
And the best part is that it’s probably going to work, lol

well, i didnt select an ethnicity and they cant really figure it out from my name.

im sure essays help lots.

that’s smart. I should’ve done that. so many people told me that being an asian female was going to HELP me in college admissions…and I believed them…liesssssss

I want to join the facebook group, but I am paranoid that other colleges will see it and that it will therefore hurt my chances at other schools… And yes, christiansoldier, I think you accomplished your goal (I don’t know about grades). Good luck to you (and everyone else, obviously!!!), but I hope you have many more hooks aside from scores/grades, because they alone will not get you into Yale.

^ How will other schools see it? The title doesn’t exactly give it away. Plus, you can hide your group settings so nobody can see what groups you’re in.

As I said, I am paranoid :). My biggest concern is the combination of New Haven in the title and the Yale symbol (bulldog and Y) as the picture

Believe it or not, colleges are aware that you apply to other places. Princeton isn’t going to punish you for applying to Yale too. In fact, you’d look rather silly applying only to one big college, and applying to many shows that you really want a great education.

I am aware, but they don’t need to know that Yale is my first choice - they won’t see any Princeton groups that I’ve joined on fb.

extra curriculars for the win!!

i never realized how important they were till this year. although im in A LOT of ecs, im happy i did everything i loved, it makes it way easier to explain everything in an interview or essay!

Yeah, I was so paranoid about yale checking my fb… so I unlisted it and changed all settings to friends only… haha

lucky. my problem is that even if I did omit ethnicity, I have to put my parents country of birth (China) and the fact that I can speak, write, and read chinese fluently. so that would PRETTY much give it away.
one of my friends who graduated two years ago omitted his ethnicity (hes chinese but his last name is spelled “Young”) and he was accepted into harvard

I agree. Christian- your scores are astronomical, and you should be very proud of your accomplishments. I bet only a few people in the whole country have your impressive scores. but if you put it into perspective (and I dont say this to demean you), but like, if I hadn’t done as many extracurriculars, I would have had time to, say, try to turn my 2360 into a 2400, or my 790 Math II into an 800, take more subject tests, more ap tests, etc. but I never felt the need/desire, so I didn’t waste the time.
I’m sure you have other stuff though. from my experiences, smart kids are usually talented in many ways

yeah, I took the sat and act once each, with a reasonable score overall (~2100 and 34) but I didn’t really think it was worth worrying about/improving. I would rather spend my time on other ecs and stuff.
I’m pretty sure everyone on this board has amazing scores and ecs to even be considering applying to Yale. I wish I knew Yale alumni. or alumni from any school i’m applying to. My parents went to “college” abroad - doesnt even count for 1st generation!
Is anyone else taking SAT II’s this saturday?

Omg two weeks =/

i am taking SAT 2 Physics this Saturday, have completed math2 and bio already, so I need one more. Any hints on how to study for it???
