2014 SCEA hopefuls?

agree with terrence. do you think i’m allowed to try out for the philharmonia? somehow i doubt it :(

It’s not likely. Just how I don’t think I could even get a chorus spot in the Yale Opera. Well, actually, that may not be true. I think I did hear of some people getting chorus stuff in some of the graduate school stuff. As for the Philharmonia, orchestras in themselves have to be selective for every part of it, so it might be a no =[.

I love music, but I’m more of a hobbyist. I play 5 instruments. Hopefully there will be some opportunities at Yale to play for people like me who are hobbyists and not music majors.

I’d also really love to learn to sing, play the organ, and join the Yale Guild of carillonneurs.

Unfortunately, from my obsession of learning tons of instruments I’ve become somewhat of a “jack of all trades, master of none.” Oh well. I’m happy with my abilities :).

I’ve had the opportunity to work with Simon Carrington (the director of the Schola Cantorum at Yale) in an intimate setting and he is great! I’m hoping I’m accepted so I can work with him again, among other things (being the great academics, etc.)

oh hahah the jack of all trades type.
I have a friend like you, she currently attends Rice. She is actually the “jack of all trades, master of all” LOL!. it’s frightening.

Well, when I learn organ, it will be kind of like combining all of the instruments into one. It’s not called the king of instruments for nothing!

this is like five pages late lol but to those who were asking, i play flute, piccolo, piano, and voice,
(can you really play voice? i guess it would be more proper to say i sing).

submitted on flute though. telleman, bizet, hazo, and bach. I was going to sing but it had a multilingual requirement and didnt really want to learn a song that fast.

im not a music major type AT ALL. ive never had a private lesson or anything, but i play first chair so my director told me to audition. the e version sounded alright, but, as always, would have sounded better live… i used smartmusic.

do you guys believe in ghosts? lol (random question)

depends.

ghost of the late king hamlet? why yes, i do.

im sorry.
that was an awful joke.

I believe in ghosts.

I’m also submitting a music supplement. high fives music supplement people I don’t know if they’ll like mine because it’s pop music but I might as well give it a go.

Also, Pigs is right - NOBODY SPEAKS LATIN, YOU LAME-Os!!! Clearly Latin is no longer relevant because we don’t speak it in everyday conversation anymore. We should also probably translate Shakespeare into modern English, his stuff makes so little sense. I bet he was on crack.

And I’m going to agree with Pigs again and say that you guys SHOULD have more confidence in yourselves. BUT there is a very distinct difference between confidence and arrogance. Believing that you are good enough for Yale is confidence. But Yale is not godly. You do not have to be DESERVING of Yale. It is not a holy PRIVILEDGE to attend Yale. Adcoms are not saints waiting to admit you to heaven. It is a wonderful school, sure, and anyone should be absolutely thrilled to go there. But someone has to be admitted, and it might just be YOU.

However, believing you are better than everyone else is arrogance. And actively portraying to others that you think yourself a somehow better person than them is just rude. It’s mean. And it’s uncalled for. We are all in this together. Some of us will be accepted, but more of us will be rejected. That’s just the way it is. We can choose to be humble and accept our decisions or we can choose to be conceited.

I do firmly believe in the power of positive thinking. People here need to stop being so concerned with how good everyone else is and consider themselves on their own merits. You DO think you’re good enough otherwise you wouldn’t have applied, it’s as simple as that.

But ultimately we’re all here for the same reason - because we love Yale. Right? And Yale is known for the friendliness and openness of its students. And even if you doubt that about Yale in particular, surely the basis of human nature should suggest to you that we should be supporting each other.

Now. Who’s for a verse or two of Kum Bay Yah?

What’s Kub Bay Yah? Isn’t that something from The Lion King? Sounds it.

late response but

your math teacher went to yale and harvard? JEEZ sounds like my history teacher (went to upenn and harvard)

and agreed. if she does get in, and we do too, I’m going to try my best to avoid her. although it looks like she tried to hang around for a while posting a few more useless comments. I thought it was pretty clear she was unwanted, but some people never learn…

So the only thing I don’t like about yale is new haven, but thats about it. and besides, yalies say theres not much need to leave the campus anyway

@ Stupefy. Thank you. I’ve been reading a lot and not posting on these forums and i couldn’t stand pigsatsea’s arrogance either. I hope it’s not indicative of the Yale campus, hopefully because that’s one thing i can’t stand in people. I heard Yalies were very down to earth and humble tho, so hopefully that’s true

I absolutely agree with portugueseninja, especially the comment about confidence v. arrogance. Regardless of our fate at Yale, I am glad to have met all of you. =)
I enjoyed the conversations we’ve had on anything and everything (from politics to ghosts lol). Whether you get into Yale or not, just know that you will be happy wherever you end up (I know it sounds cliche, but I am convinced it is true).

Greetings from the Brown ED thread!
We just want to wish you all good luck in decision process, and will be sure to check back once they (decisions) have been announced! =]

Kk, dumb question, but how do I quote stuff in my reply? There’s a check box with “Quote message in reply?” but I can’t check it…? lol thanks for any help

^Use the tags [ Quote] … /Quote around whatever you want to quote

7 days 7 days 7 days 7 days yippeeee!!!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I’m nervous! However, I do get to find out about a Florida university tonight, so that will be my first decision given to me by any school.
