my adcom emailed me back about 25 minutes after i emailed her, and she even wished me a happy thanksgiving! (it was the day right before thanksgiving haha)

I was going to say chopins 4th ballade, but someone took it (I submitted that for my music supplement!)
so imma say rachmaninoff’s 2nd concerto AKA rocky numba 2

wow, you submitted that for your music supplement? that thing is intense. it’s #1 on my pieces-to-lean-asap-list.

actually listen to all 4 ballades, they’re all great!

Schumann’s piano sonata no. 1 in F# minor. One of my favorites! Yeah the 4th ballade is intense; I’m playing the 1st ballade now and that’s pretty epic for me…

It seems like quite a few of us SCEAers submitted music supplements! (I was thinking about it but decided not to. I’m really not that great compared to some other people at my school) In any case, great to see other classical music people too!! woot :)

oh and Grieg… both the piano sonata and concerto I love!

yup
I played it last year (as in during last school year) and it won me a few competitions
it’s the recording I’m most proud of EVER, took me so long to perfect it. I’ve also played the 3rd ballade. I don’t like the 2nd one, and the 1st is overplayed IMO

but the other piece I submitted for my music supplement is ehhh
really mediocre (I don’t record often) hope they just listen to the ballade and stop. haha

haha yeah I know what you mean! I don’t record often either. in fact I don’t think I ever have…I submitted supplements in violin with the really good one as first in hope that they’d only listen to that and then stop. but when I uploaded it on their site it switched the order around so now the super bad one is first. haha whoops.

that’s awesome, congrats on the competitions! I played the 3rd ballade last year and I’m playing scherzo no…2? this year…and yeah the 1st one is def overplayed. that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still amazing and epic though :p

My admissions rep has been awesome, very attentive, and got back to me on numerous occasions with answers to my questions. Actually one reason, I have been impressed with Yale. Among others…:)

Good luck on tuesday everyone!!! Waiting for Penn decisions to be released made yesterday one of the longest days of my life, so I know how you all feel lol

@chibistar- THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME! I put my ballade first, and now it’s the second one! I wonder if they do that on purpose…sketchy -.-

the chopin scherzos are awesome too. in fact, he’s awesome period. my favorite composer BY FAR. debussy is a far second. (love impressionist music…and art too)

and WOW you’re an advanced pianist AND violinist? that’s very impressive! I only play the one

What we are all so desperately hoping for (with 2014 instead of 2013 of course…):

And…

These get me through the day haha

Or listen to Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 or Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, if you’re into the heavy Russian Romantic Era stuff. It’s awesome! :)

lol I admire you guys. If I’d submitted a violin supplement they would cringe and reject me right there.

Handel’s Messiah!!!

@xatuuatx:

I mentioned this a few days ago! I actually had the opportunity to perform it with a local prestigious choir along with four soloists from the Curtis Institute of Music. It went so wonderfully. Currently, I’m listening to versions from the group Seraphic Fire and the choruses from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.

WOW!! Everyone is so musically talented on CC. I quit the piano after playing for 6 years, right before entering high school because of my busy schedule. I have to say it was one of the biggest regrets of my entire life. Whenever I hear others play music, I get lost in the perfect blend of notes that I can no longer play! Sigh…:(

Yeah, I’m really surprised so many people on CC sent in music supplements. Lol, me included, though.

Me too. Even though I’m not one.

There are too many good pieces to listen to! My favorites though (for orchestral stuff): Scheherazade, New World Symphony (No. 9), Firebird Suite, Symphony Fantastique, Shostakovich Symphony No. 5, anything by Beethoven., The Planets, ooooh…too many :D!

I personally like Rachmaninoff and Massenet. Anyone listen to “Meditation,” by Massenet?
