All my safties/reaches are faaar away. I’m in Australia.

I wouldn’t call Tufts a safety. Ever heard of Tufts Syndrome?

^Yes, but my counselor assures me that I will get in, and the students accepted from my school have SIGNIFICANTLY lower stats/grades/less ECs/no national awards, etc. than I do… I’ll see, I guess - I might not even apply b/c their app is sooo annoying

We read Naufragios too! I didn’t like it all that much…

At dan92: Exactly. Tufts tends to reject super-qualified applicants that they feel will get into “better” schools. They do this in order to protect their matriculation percentage, or yield.

I was originally going to apply to Tufts, but their supplement warded me off.

doesn’t wash u do this as well?

^Do they reject or waitlist super-qualified applicants?

i think the tufts supplement may actually be to avoid “tufts syndrome” - people actually have to put effort into the application, meaning they really want to apply there and don’t just throw it in as their safety school.

that post was @xatuuatx
@tristan101 - I’ve never heard that about Wash U before - are you sure??

I’m not completely sure about that part. (being waitlisted or rejected, that is)

I’ve read quite a few times that WashU waitlists many top candidates. Whether this is for yield, I’m not sure.

I’ve also heard from many sources that WUSTL waitlists over-qualified applicants so that they can get higher yield #s so they can move up USNWR

Yale should so release tomorrow at like 6:30 am. That way, everyone wouldn’t check at the time and the server prbly wouldnt crash…

@Rtgrove123 - that would really make sense!
@plumdum229 - I just looked it up, and that seems to be fairly common for WUSTL, but that does mean that if an “over-qualified” applicant really wants to go there, they can send a letter after being waitlisted pledging to attend; obviously its not ideal, but waitlisting in that situation is MUCH better than rejection. Also, I am somewhat surprised that Wash U would do that; I thought that that policy was practiced only by schools one-tier lower. WUSTL is already really high on USNWR

Some Yale admissions lady once remarked that last year 13% of applicants to Yale were from the Chicago metropolitan area.

if i get rejected tomorrow, i’m going to miss yale. major, major heartache. i’m going to miss having a dream school, miss a subject of fantasy when i daydream in english, miss being in love. . .

@ chair2, agreed.
and im going to have to find another thread to stalk!

^ agreed chair 2. totally agreed.

Ah, I couldn’t have possibly said that better
