Many on here know that I’m a huge Wings fan and the child of a huge Wings fan… seeing the Russian five was an emotional event in our house just now.

These are cool games to watch. I wish I could be down there… but I’m much happier watching it on the TV in something other than 10 degree weather lol.

I’ve met Gordie Howe several times and even had dinner with him (long story). He’s really a great guy and it’s a bit sad to see how old he’s gotten. I know objectively he’s getting up there but this is the first time I’ve seen him in several years.

When I was in high school, I was a huge fan of the Houston Aeros (now defunct WHA). I saw MANY games where Gordie played alongside his sons, Mark and Marty. I was also good friends with the daughter of the Aero’s coach - we worked together in one of the local ice rinks, and I’m pretty sure the coach was beyond humbled to be coaching all three Howes on the same professional team.

I am still at work. I would have loved to go to the Winter Classic. I had tickets to the Big Chill and couldn’t go because I was really sick, and I’d planned to go to the Winter Classic but my post-lockout finances are not as great as my pre-lockout finances were… we just couldn’t pull it off this time.

I assume this is being aired on that Center Ice thing, if that’s still what it’s called? Whatever it is you buy from the NHL. I have that, I wouldn’t let my fiance cancel the cable unless he bought me that. So unless it’s on that I guess I will miss it.

Ema, it’s on CBET (channel 9 if the channels where you live are the same as where I live) and NBCSP. It might be on others but that’s what we’re switching between.

Ema - I’m watching it on Fox Sports and it’s also on NBC sports. The winter classic will be on NBC, I think. The cool thing about the Fox Sports broadcast is that they have the Red Wing goalies miked - Manny Legace is a hoot.

I don’t even think I could have fun sitting and watching that game in the Big House. But remember, these players played in these kinds of conditions most of their lives, as kids, every chance they got :)
