2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

Non SGR-getters we will hear back before June 1st! Only 3 weeks MAXIMUM… But earlier would be nice too haha.

No @journalism89 I haven’t heard a thing!

my birthday is saturday so I’m hoping USC blesses me with the best birthday gift of all :((

^ Haha same, my birthday is next week, so I’m hoping for an acceptance as a gift – fingers crossed

Has anyone contacted their admissions counselor asking for an update?

I’m a Marshall applicant, no access to oasis, no SGR, and have had no communication with USC since submitting my application in February. I was accepted to Loyola Marymount University and I have 1 more week to either decline/accept their admission and my current university also needs to know if I’m staying or leaving. I’m on a quarter system school so I sent USC my winter grades, but other than that, no contact. Is it acceptable/reasonable to ask for an application status update from USC, and if so how have people phrased it? I have pressing deadlines so I kind of need an answer, but I obviously know they are very busy and do not want to bother them. Any advice?

edit: I also didn’t apply for any financial aid and I’m not sure how much that has to do with my chances of acceptance/how quickly they will review my application. I don’t think it really influences much, but I think most people apply for financial aid so I think I may be one of the few who did not

I’m in the same situation @alexk97 UMiami needs a response in 6 days and I really doubt USC will be even close to notifying me by then. Not sure if paying a $500 deposit for a school I’m not positive I will attend is the best way to go in this situation.

So I echo that question if anyone knows how to approach this situation.

My son is in the same situation and I told him to accept his offer from UNC. He was able to defer the deposit pending his financial aid award from UNC.

I don’t think there’s any harm in contacting your admissions counselor and letting them know abut your situation. Obviously there is no guarantee that they will be able to give you any information, but they will understand that you don’t want to pay a deposit on another school before hearing from USC if you can avoid it. It might lead to them expediting their review of your app. I would definitely call rather than sending an email - I find it’s a lot easier to get information over the phone.

Anyone else get anything from Dornsife yet?

@Sxsxjx Non-SGR getters can actually hear back a few days past that date. I know it’s supposed to be like a “deadline” but I did not receive an SGR last year and I heard back approximately 5 days after last year’s date they said they would notify all transfers of some type of decision. It sucks, but USC can even make you wait longer than they say :stuck_out_tongue:

is there a certain date that you’d get an SGR? or could they wait until june and ask for a SGR then?
really worried because i have yet to receive anything from usc… and I’m a sophomore transfer… so I’m expecting an sgr. has anyone heard of a sophomore transfer, non ttp getting a straight out acceptance?

Question: does the portal status message ever change after they receive an SGR? Or is the the only way to tell if it shows up in “received documents” where, in this case it’s indiscernible from “UniverisityTranscript” from Fall. Son’s portal still says they’ve asked for Spring grades.

Hey guys,
Just got my acceptance letter from USC

My first choice was USC Marshall for Fiance, but I got accepted to my 2nd choice, at Dornsife for Mathematics. I was pretty set on going to marshall though cause I wanted to go into I-banking.

Do you think i can still kick it off from Dornsife if i change my major to Economics?

@suleman1 where did you receive your letter and what school are you from? Stats?

if you pay your deposit, you should be able to get a refund within a certain timeframe. I was supposed to attend Fordham University, had submitted my deposit, then got my financial awards and was like… ok, not worth it… and they fully refunded my deposit when I withdrew.

The wait for Annenberg is killing me!!! @zettasyntax do you know if SGR’s will still be sent out, or are the people who didn’t receive one yet going to get a straight acceptance or rejection?

@suleman1
congrats alot!!!

math is my first choice! could you let me know your stats?

Haven’t heard anything from Marshall. Is it a bad sign? Cos i think they have sent the acceptance packages…

@Trojan2119 Unless USC decides to change things up this year, they can send SGRs until the very end. It’s been that way the past 2 years. It definitely sucks to get hit with an SGR around the deadline date, but it’s very well possible. And traditionally, they save the rejections for the very end too, so I understand that it creates stress. I was all but sure I was going to be rejected when I heard nothing by the first day of June last year.

While it is still possible to get an SGR, I definitely hope more of you get outright accepted rather than having to wait

Do Annenberg applicants typically don’t receive SGR/ receive a notification very very late?
