Have all transfer merit scholarships been awarded already? Or is it just whenever we hear back from them?
I’m wondering too… I can’t really see the stars audit because I’m on my phone… What a coincidence that it was updated my first day on oasis lol
Two days ago they posted all Transfer Merit Scholarships are complete and recipients have been notified. Go to USC admission twitter to see post.
@LACCryan wait* sorry
To be clear, and not to be a downer, what @CADREAMIN is saying is that if you wanted USC to pay half of your tuition or less, they have most likely chosen all the recipients.
Oh I was confused by what you were trying to clear up. USC said all transfer merit scholarships are out and scholarship recipients have been notified. The scholarships are done/finished/complete, but they still may be notifying people of their acceptance.
Also, people may still qualify for aid, but that is not a scholarship, that is need based aid. And those may be in the form of grants but also can be loans.
@blueskies2day Sorry for the confusion haha. You are exactly right.
So if I’m going to be a sophomore transfer and haven’t been asked for SGR is that a bad sign? I had a 3.8 GPA my first semester of college and It’s looking likely that I will be getting a 3.9 for my spring semester. My friend who got accepted as a sophomore transfer this year, did not receive an SGR and was accepted without one. I’m not sure whether to feel that this is a good sign or a bad sign that I haven’t been asked for an SGR because I am only going to be a sophomore next semester. Thoughts?
@uschopeful6 I would think the main reason for anyone getting rejected as a sophomore, would be having less than 30 transferable credits (in this scenario, HS transcripts come into account), a lack of university requirements and/or GE’s completed, or simply a course load that lacks big time in rigor… As long as none of them are true in your situation, I would personally be surprised if you got rejected (simply my opinion).
@uschopeful6 just like whatpenntousc had said, if you have less than 30 transferable credits in total, including spring, then your HS transcripts come into account. I am a sophomore too and have 34 transferrable units by the end of spring semester. So they would only look at my college courses and not my HS transcript, hence the reason why I’ve gotten a SGR in the beginning of May. What classes are you taking? list your classes and units and maybe we can determine your chance of getting a sgr.
I did not receive a SGR. I already talked with my admissions counselor about sending in my spring grades a couple weeks ago. I also believe I will not receive one because of my intended major (East Asian Area Studies) has no additional coursework or prerequisites to show to them. The SRG is meant for majors and college within USC that need courses before entering like mechanical engineer major would need calc. I and II before being admitted. All I took was GEs, which is obviously the one reason why USC would want to see my transcript this semester. Many of the majors within Dornsife and the other colleges require no additional work or prerequisites besides the GE’s. If your major does not require taking classes specifically related to major at your current college or you already have 30 transferable units, do NOT expect to receive an SGR.
I should say that I have not actually applied yet, as I’ll be starting CC next year (hope to get into USC as Soph). With that said, my schedule for next year looks a little like this: I will have 31 transferable credits completed, all of the university requirements completed (calc for math, comp 2 for writing, sociology for diversity), almost all Marshall requirements completed (calc, financial and managerial accounting, comp 2 for the writing), and multiple GE’s completed in the process. So long as I get the grades (3.7 or higher with A’s in most important courses), I would assume that I’d be receiving an SGR in April or May. Is that a fair prediction, given that I get the grades needed to get accepted? And I’d also appreciate it if anyone else has tips for what I should add to that.
I got accepted but the conditions of admission are vague. “Please remember that your admission is contingent upon verification of official academic records, wasting actors completion of coursework, and avoidance of academic and behavioral misconduct.” I dropped my botany class with W because I wasn’t going to pass. It’s not related to my English major. I have a 3.5 gpa as well. It will be my second W as well.
@penntousc @pomeranian4rich Thanks for the advice! I took 31 credits as of spring courses that I am hoping will transfer. Here is what I am taking:
Spring Term:
American History- 3 credits
Biology with Lab- 4 credits
Writing and Literary Arts (honors college)- 3 credits
Intro to Communication- 3 credits
Intro to Psychology- 3 credits
Fall Term:
Media Analysis- 3 credit
Intro to Political Science (honors college)- 3 credits
English Composition (honors college)- 3 credits
Patterns and Functions (math requirement)- 3 credits
Comedy as Culture (my freshman year seminar requirement)- 3 credits
I’m afraid some courses may not transfer, and as a result they must look into my high school transcripts. I’m hoping for good news from USC but no SGR has made me very nervous.
I also applied and was accepted into Boston University, Boston College, and Northeastern University. However, USC is my first choice and I am dying to find out my admission decision. The other schools have also taken all of my courses if that’s any indicator.
@uschopeful6 you probably haven’t gotten one because you have the 30+ credits and from your spring schedule it doesn’t seem like any requirements were in progress. In my case, I only have 28 credits, because I think one of my classes will not transfer, even though I checked with my counselor when I meant him during the TTP meeting. I did receive an SGR and submitted my transcripts and am patiently waiting. But I feel like you’re on good terms!
Wait actually, I know forsure you communications class won’t be transferable as I remember my counselor telling me that. Did you look at the USC transfer articulation when you registered for classes?
People that have been admitted…when was your youSC page updated to reflect your acceptance, compared to getting the snailmail letter? Did you get snailmail first, or the same day as youSC was updated, or was youSC updated first?
I’m sure I’m not eligible for need-based scholarships but I have a really high GPA. Would my financial status affect my chances of getting a merit scholarship in any way?
@uschopeful6 don’t take this too seriously at all because like I said I haven’t applied yet, but in all the research I’ve done, college seminar courses and intro to psych in particular seem to be courses that USC is very strict on, so they may or may not transfer. Like I said though, everything I say is based solely off of extensive research on USC transfer information, so this could be completely incorrect since I haven’t tried any courses that aren’t on the articulation agreements (it may even be on there for your school). You have a high GPA and it seems as though you’ve met a good amount of GE’s, so I wouldn’t worry until they give you the actual decision. Best of luck to you!
@penntousc is right, the psychology class isn’t transferable as I had to change that class for a philosophy class. Before the Spring semester my counselor emailed me asking for my spring semester classes to see what I was talking and told me not to take psychology and switch for philosophy.
I believe the reason for this is that USC has a very highly regarded Psych program so most intro to psych courses just aren’t deep enough
