My son was rejected - Viterbi/CS, 3.96 GPA, out of state, 60 units. He’s been accepted to UNC and U of Arizona (honors). He’s still waiting on UT Austin. Right now, he’ll be attending UNC unless UT comes in at the last minute. Good luck to the rest of you!!
@jazzshreddermom why won’t your son be able to go to USC if accepted?
He would be “able,” but might choose not to. He would likely have NO GE’s that transfer to USC while all of them would be done for his school after next fall (tested out of some, lighter GE requirements for business majors where he is). Also has two courses that may not transfer at all. The articulation agreement list for his school is woefully unfinished, it seems. And some other program-related reasons. A packet could change everything, though. I kind of hope not at this point. I don’t want to pay for any extra semesters, lol.
Just to be clear, reason I mentioned the “peer” thing (how USC views his school) is that she told us all GPA’s are not considered to be equal. They view GPA’s holistically considering where the student is.
@cool786 why are they rejecting such high gpa applicants?? and you’re also a legacy! do you mind telling us what classes you took? you’re prereq? I feel like they’re basing your admission on the classes you took.
I’m pretty sure it’s because you can’t have any more than 64 transferable units ^
On almost all the articulations on https://camel2.usc.edu/articagrmt/artic_hist_range.aspx mention in the credits section, that for most majors, no more than 64 transferable credits can be completed…
@NosyParent16 oh wow your son has really good GPA, I’m surprised he didn’t get accepted… I wonder, how come?
I’m still waiting for viterbi response for me ><
@penntousc you can have more than 64 units, that’s just how many they accept for junior transfers. You must complete 64 units at USC to graduate. There was someone accepted several days ago to Marshall with 80+ units.
Edit: actually he had over 100.
@cctousc it must vary quite a bit then depending on the agreements, the articulation for my school states “Most students may transfer in a maximum of 64 semester units.” … But yes it is confusing because I’ve seen a few get in with well over that
@penntousc Yes, you may transfer in a maximum of 64 units. Which means your other units get “thrown out” and you don’t get credit for them.
@cctousc alright, thank you for verifying that.
Well off to Paul Merage School of Business. Pros I get a free ride at UCI Bus Adm. Maybe MBA for USC unless I get into Anderson or Haas. Congrats who got in.
@Lechooch I thought they prefer cc local kids over out of state 4 years schools? I’m a 3.8gpa sophomore with 34 transferable units. I’ve gotten a sgr early may and only finished half my prereq for marshall up to this spring semester, which includes, writing, calculus 2, financial accounting and marco-econ (not business econ, which is required for business major.). I have no legacy but I think my 1st generation college student status helped me, but I’m not sure. No rec. letters and my essays were poorly written to be honest… I read it over and found many grammatical errors. I find it hard to believe that they straight out rejected you! You have a 4.0 gpa and completed all your prereq. They should at least give you a SGR and be interested in you. Makes me wonder why they’re interested in me…hmmm, could be that I’m a 1st generation college student but who knows.
@cmlhmms I’m sorry to hear don’t worry remember everything happens for a reason, you’re gunna end up where you’re meant to be
I am also a animation applicant, did you find out through portal or mail? Do you live in southern California??
What did your portfolio consist of? Figure drawings ? Digital art?
The UC’s definitely prefer CCC transfer kids. Not sure about private universities. My point was that they view the rigor of the school you’re coming from when looking at GPAs. All 4.0s are not equal.
@chaseguy750 Hey! I went back and read your stats and I’m surprised that they rejected you! I’m in a complete shock right now. Your grades were stellar and your ec. and letter of rec were pretty good! I barely have any ec. just one from high school and no letter of rec. My essays were poorly written, lots of grammatical errors, but I somehow caught their interest and received a sgr early may. My gpa is similar to yours also, 3.8gpa and only completed most of the prereq(still need managerial accounting). You should try appealing there could be hope! I did mentioned in my application that I’m a 1st generation students(both of my parents never attended college), idk how much that weigh into my application.
ACCEPTED!!
