2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

@jare_beaer I’m in a similar situation and I’m thinking the same thing is happening with my application… “waitlist”

They have formulas in play for those that accept and deny admission as transfers. Many people that accepted regular admissions will have things come up that prevent them from attending, so they pull their admission, they are prepared for all of these kinds of scenarios and a hundred more. There is no waitlist. Whether a transfer accepts a spot isn’t going to impact someone that hasn’t heard yet. If you are still waiting after submitting all docs a month ago, I would call and ask for status on your app. 28% transfers accepted 72% are not. About 35-40% of accepted transfers don’t attend, they know that. They work around figures like these from 2014:

8,640 Applications
2,440 Admission Offers
1,465 Transfer Class Size
3.7 Average College GPA
28% Admit Rate

Okay y’all I called the main admissions office about my application and they said that most of us will not hear back until mid-July and that it didn’t matter which major you applied to.

@CADREAMIN interesting. How do you know 35-40% don’t attend?

@thepinksun @jare_beaer I’m in the same boat. So I called the main admissions line and the guy told me that there’s a possibility that the rest of applicants will not hear until Mid-July. But I’m pretty sure this may not apply to us since we’ve been waiting for a while

@LACCryan those stats are in the transfer brochure.
@CADREAMIN when I said “waitlist” it was figurative. For lack of a better word. Like you explained, they pull from their admissions pool when certain things come up with other applicants. we were not accepted or denied, just on a “waitlist.”

@thepinksun Even the “About 35-40% of accepted transfers don’t attend”? I sure hope that’s the case because I feel like I’m on the bubble.lol

oh lol idk about that part just the stats at the bottom haha @LACCryan

@thepinksun yea, I revised my question almost instantly because I noticed where @CADREAMIN got those stats. I just wasn’t sure about the 35-40%. haha Thanks!!

I submitted my Spring Grades this morning. Waiting game starts now. Good luck to all the applicants. Fight on.

I just got off the phone with admissions after calling them to let them know that I submitted my spring grades this morning. The lady on the phone said she will update my file and was very surprised that I took 21 units and got a 4.0 she also said that I will hear back in mid July for a decision. Also my application status on you.us.portal went back to the original message. Hope this means I got in.

@mr.transfer that IS impressive. I’m sure you’ve already done so, but do you mind sharing your stats again please? thanks

@mr.transfer what do you mean by went back to the original message. On my portal, it has been the same after I got my SGR.

@mr.transfer I hope that is good news to me too! took 20 units this spring and got a 4.0gpa, submitted my grades early may. I just called the admission office this morning about my admission status. and i was told everything is fine and no missing document and that i should hear in back in a few weeks.

@mr.transfer I hope you know that the lady on the phone has no decision whatsoever over accepting or rejecting you. They even give some of those jobs to students. She updated your file because you sent your spring grades, meaning they do it to everyone once they have received your spring grades. And for everyone else I’d say give them two weeks after they RECIEVE your grade to call otherwise it’s just plain annoying.

@frh777 I don’t think @Mr.transfer was saying that his fate was in that woman’s hands, more so than he was merely noting her reaction after his spring term performance. At least that’s how I interpreted it. It’s true that a phone call can help ‘update’ the portal, which may or may not be ‘annoying’ - depending on the approach. In any case, I don’t think following up will necessarily influence the office of admission to make a decision, either way. They’re not spiteful like that. That’s just my opinion.

@LACCryan 60 units 4.0 GPA completed all of my major prerequisites and completed all of GE requirements. 2 letters of rec and strong essays. Marshall applicant transferring from CCC.

@mrheha the message “we have requested your spring grades…” is no longer there and is replaced with the original message “we have received your common application and we require no additional info…”

@pomeranian4rich good for you, I hope both of us hear back within the next couple of weeks. #FightOn

@frh777 yeah I am fully aware that she has no control over my decision but I called to make sure that they are aware I submitted my grades via the portal. She did not seemed annoyed that I called regarding my application. She was extremely happy to look over my application and my spring grades.

I hope we all get in! #noplayerhating

I like what you say ^

It’s the truth. Most of us here have made it passed a number of cut-points so that in and of itself is worth a lot. We are seemingly the last ones left and I hope it’s just a matter of formality (receiving/processing) from here on out. We should start a FB group or something to celebrate and keep in touch, should we get accepted. I think it’s kinda cool that we’re all on here as transfer students who share the same struggle of trying to make it to the big stage. We’ve all worked hard.
