@mr.transfer their job is to provide good customer service and act “happy.” My point is that there is no way to find out if you got in until you get the letter or they update the portal. I have friends who have gotten rejected from USC with a 4.0 spring semester and I know someone who was accepted with an overall 3.3 GPA.
@LACCryan I agree
let’s be friends! @ryandotvargas on instagram!
@LACCryan Check out the figures, they accept 2440 and only 1465 attend. 60% accepted actually attend, and 40% don’t. This is pretty average if you look at several years. My point is they already know these figures when they select the around 2440 to accept in the first place each year. Good luck anyone still waiting, hope you have closure soon!
I knew what you meant @thepinksun, I just mentioned them not having a waitlist cause some new poster comes on board here, sees that and is calling USC the next day asking if they are on the waitlist!
@LACCryan I’ve been following this thread, and you are so nice and encouraging with everyone! I just added you! I’m hoping you and everyone else the best. My parents won’t let me go sadly if I get into USC, but I hope I can convince them!
@frh777 rejected with a 4.0 spring semester??? was there a reason why your friend was rejected? If they asked for a sgr, they must be really interested in your friend but wanted to see how he or she performs before admitting him or her.
Thanks @cmartin12 I added you back!! I sure hope your parents have a change of heart once you get the acceptance package :-).
@pomeranian4rich @frh777 Here’s a really insightful video I found on the tube that offers an overview of USC’s ‘holistic’ approach to evaluating applications. It goes into some detail that helps explain the complexities in why a student with a perfect GPA may be denied admission. Check it out!!!
@pomeranian4rich the thing is that grades aren’t the only thing that factors into your acceptance. They also highly value the essay that you write and my friend’s reason for transferring was that he wanted to transition from a smaller to a larger school (AKA CLICHE ASF). I got an SGR and I had a 3.88 Spring Semester (Overall 3.83 as a sophomore transfer), my essay was great because I’m Brazilian so it was based on diversity (not to sound self-centered, but I’m a creative writing major), and I don’t think my chances of being accepted are high. USC is an extremely competitive school and anyone who gets in should be extremely proud of themselves.
@LACCryan I do agree that you’re very supportive to others. I’ve been following this thread for a while, but I don’t think that everyone is saying the truth. If you think about it, people could very well be lying about getting accepted in order not to feel left out.
Hmmmm @frh777 Although I understand what you’re trying to say and how it is technically possible, I can’t subscribe to the notion that people would actually make the effort to lie about being accepted. I was rejected to UCLA and let me tell you, it’s much easier to disappear than to mislead the same group of people I shared honest information with leading up till my decision. The fact that we are even in this group represents that we are a certain type of people that don’t carry ourselves in that manner. Maybe it’s just me but I think It’s a little too presumptuous and unfair to assert that people are lying. I come from a place where strangers aren’t cast with a shadow of doubt just because it fits my narrative. I respect what you’re saying, but I’m going to have to disagree with you on this one.
@frh777 grades play a major role in the admission process. They look at what courses you took, have you completed your major prerequisites, GE requirement, how heavy was your coursework and etc… In my case I have completed all the requirements, maintained a perfect GPA while working 36 hours a week involved in clubs and had great essays. Its never a guaranteed but looking at previous years I believe I have a high chance.
I, like some, have been creeping on this thread for a while :">. I’m in the same boat as a lot of you: Marshall applicant, sent sgr around mid-may and am waiting for a response. People like @LACCryan are why I keep checking up on thread (keep being awesome and helpful). Maybe it’s because it’s were in college now but this is the most supportive CC thread I’ve come across as opposed to the high school applicant threads I was on last year where everyone pissed about waiting and got competitive and anxious whenever someone posted better stats.
Enough about that though, just wanted to share my thanks with the people who have been consistent about posting and sharing information the rest of can use. Good luck to everyone, be patient, and keep the dream alive!
@awalksonman thanks for the kind words; we’re all striving for the same outcome and the anxiety of failure is already enough to bear - so there’s no room for overly critical remarks. At this point we all pretty much know the rules and the possibilities are quite obvious. Let’s continue to share our experiences and decisions for the betterment of the group.
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting We gotta stick together through this and and hopefully it will pay off and we’ll be able to see each other at USC next semester!
Are there any other Viterbi applicants waiting? I received a SGR on the 21st but nothing other than that.
I’m just curious, so do you folks that are still waiting to hear have another option in place? Folks on TTP can always stay at their school, but asking the usual transfer students…Not being debbie downer here, just curious how this works for you all. It is June, and some don’t hear until July, so is it go big or go home? Meaning USC is the only choice? Or do most people have another school they have already committed to? Not trying to get personal, or ask about specific schools, just curious in general, if transfer students that end up not getting in take a gap semester or two, or certainly have something else lined up as well?
@kyleparker406 Congrats! I’m transferring out of Cornell so if you have any questions, I can try and answer.
@CADREAMIN for me I applied this year for “fun” and experience to understand how usc admission works and I didn’t expect to get this “far” or maybe get admitted. I was planning to transfer after my 2nd year of community college, but if I do get in for this fall I guess I am really lucky! Most of my sophomore applicant friends have already been rejected.
Do any of y’all know if they can bump someone from a spring admit to a fall admit? Or is that just weird?
I’ve been following this thread for a few weeks, but never posted haha so hey everyone. Has anyone else submitted their Spring Grade Request, but it hasn’t cleared in their portal? I was told that it didn’t have to be an official transcript, so I sent a .pdf of my grade screen around May 15th, and it hasn’t updated. I sent it again a few days ago and it hasn’t updated still. It said I would receive an email when it was submitted and when it clear and haven’t received either. Maybe a glitch?
@bergamott I had the same issue. I would call the admissions office to confirm that they received it. When I called they removed the request on my portal to clarify they received it.
@CADREAMIN I will most likely stay at my school. I go to American in DC, and only applied to USC because it has always been my dream school. Where are you applying from?
Finally got all my spring grades in and just uploaded my transcripts, thank god I did end up pulling off a 4.0 this semester. Good luck to everyone now it’s time to sleep and enjoy summer while we wait.
