We have pretty similar stats, @anxiety2016
Hoping for the best!
Yea @John6311 for sure! Let’s visit campus together! Hit me up on snapchat: Justryanv @mrajan97
@scotthock I currently live in a studio apartment in Koreatown, which is five minutes away from campus (north - in a way better area than south/west/east of SC) and it’s vibrant, diverse, and has plenty of stores and restaurants.
Koreatown is amazing! There’s so much good food around there… Can’t beat $13 all you can eat KBBQ.
@LACCryan Around what time did you get your Financial Aid package? I want to find out what it is before I let my mom know that I got in
@tranferring Yea, I love Ktown and all the tasty spots, “Sanya” is a personal favorite haha…
It seems as though the financial aid system updates over night because I woke up to an email instructing me to check the portal.
@LACCryan I’ll definitely have to check that place out then! When I visited SC my friend took me to Sul and Beans. Their desserts are out of this world.
Alright hopefully I’ll find out tomorrow then.
@scotthock I’m looking into housing right now, there is a facebook page for housing/leases but you need a valid USC e-mail to access it, so right now I’m having my sister help me (she just graduated in May and hers is still active). I’m going to be looking for roommates off-campus too (but close to SC). It’s not as expensive as it sounds, it is DTLA so it will be pricier no matter what, but most people I know can get a good place for between 750-1000 a room, with the lowest I’ve heard of at 650.
NORTH of campus in the area bounded by Adams/Jefferson and Vermont/Figueroa is the safest area (google maps it), further north starts to get a bit sketchy, but not as bad as South from what I’ve been told.
West of campus isn’t too bad either, as long as you stick on the closer side to campus. I’m looking at either North, or off of 36th street cause it’s right down the street from Viterbi.
W/e you do, I’ve been warned by some students not to go South of campus.
If anyone is looking for roommates and is a cleanly person/ somewhat responsible (pays bills on time, reliable, not going to steal my food LOL, etc) I’m in the market.
ACCEPTED!!! AHHH I’M FREAKING OUT! I’ll post stats soon, gotta call my family first lolol
@mrajan97 what major are you?! congratulations!!!
@Irishrider do you know what the commute from dtla to usc would be like? Specifically areas such as the arts district or the historic core
Admitted for fall 2016!
Hella stoked, definitely thought if I got admitted it would be for spring because of the timing of receiving a decision.
Marshall applicant.
Good luck to the rest of you!
@topchoiceschool stats? and did you get the ability to benefit thing? congrats!
@eoverland Thank you so much!!! I’m a Psychology major w/ Pre-med emphasis!
@topchoiceschool YESSS CONGRATS!!!
@lowkeyloco it would depend on the time of day and if you use the freeway or not, and if you drive or take the metro. It could be as good as 10-15 minutes or it could be as bad as a 30-45+. I’d talk to @LACCryan as he lives in Ktown (not too far from there) and he’d be able to give you a better idea.
Personally I hate LA traffic as is, so I want to be biking/walking distance to campus, just makes it easier as you don’t have to pay for a parking pass or deal with the mental stress of finding a parking spot and budget the extra time for the commute. Buuuuuut I’ll also be paying that in rent, so honestly any decision is fine, commuting or not, there’s plenty of good options.
P.S: Don’t forget about the Metro rail… runs right to USC and it’s pretty damn cheap + no worry about driving/parking. Pretty useful to USC students living there as it’s easy to get around from SC to KTown, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, DTLA, Fashion District, Hollywood, and all the way down to Long Beach too.
Congratulations @topchoiceschool and @mrajan97!!! Welcome aboard
Thank you!! :’) @Irishrider
@topchoiceschool Congrats!!! Did you apply for financial aid/get a financial aid notification?
@topchoiceschool did you apply for fafsa and css? I’ve only applied for fafsa so i don’t know if i’ll get the “ability to benefit”
Okay guys I think I’ve calmed down enough to post my stats LOL.
Accepted–Fall 2016!
Major: Psychology/Dornsife
Applied as: Rising Sophomore (31+ units)
GPA/units: 3.88 when I applied, 4.0 spring quarter and a 3.75 overall
Extracurriculars: Just my ones from high school really
Essays: Pretty good I think, I wrote about how my home life has helped me choose my career path and why I had a shitty track record in high school
Rec letters: One from my psychology professor, one from my high school principal
I only applied to USC and had no idea whether I would even stand a chance, I had a really shitty high school career and graduated with a 2.0… But I decided to come to cc and turn my life around and I’m so unbelievably shocked right now that they accepted me!!
To everyone who’s still waiting–GOOD LUCK! I hope you guys all get good news
And to those who have gotten in Congrats!!
FIGHT ON!
Accepted for Spring 2017! Dornsife applicant.
