2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

I’ll post stats after work.

Congrats!!! @John6311

Congrats!! @topchoiceschool @John6311

@LACCryan If you tour USC and happen to see a big/tall Mexican dude lugging around a huge leather messenger bag, that me :stuck_out_tongue: I seem to be really good at interfering with the campus tours lol. They always seem to be in the direction I’m going, so I have to try hard to avoid them; I’ve eavesdropped on so many that I’ve memorized some of the things they say :stuck_out_tongue:

@topchoiceschool I’m not positive on this one. You can take CS103 and CS109 without having the science prep. I’m fairly certain that you’d just need to pass those classes with a B or better before they’d let you declare the switch from BA to CSBA and then finish the science later. You’d really have to ask to be sure though. I wasn’t that close with the business guy or I would have pried more.

why is marshall being like this?! one rejection and one acceptance within the last few days… this makes me so anxious!!!

@Irishrider thanks! I was orginially intending in commuting via car but the metro seems like a good option as well

I hope the financial aid notification appears for Marshall students this Friday and official acceptance Monday!

Does anyone know why someone is admitted for spring and not fall

@John6311 The rumor is that it’s due to spots available and admissions statistics. A) sometimes they have seniors finishing their last classes in the Fall so that opens up spots for Spring and B) I hear spring admits don’t count in the Transfer statistics, so it helps them keep their competitive look while still allowing them to admit students they like/ feel would be a good fit for the school

spring transfers not included in the transfer statistic? lol…

Did anyone get the financial aid notification today?

is there a chance to get a parking permit for the usc parking structure? or is it all taken?

@john6311 No one here knows for sure. Some say it’s the GPA you earn (the higher the GPA, the higher the chances of getting into fall), others say it’s based on the amount of credits you’ve done (the more you have, the more likely you are to be admitted into spring). Somebody also mention financial aid, if you or your family can pay more, you may be put into fall, simply because it means more $$$ for USC.

I personally think the amount of GEs/PreReq you’ve completed has something to do with it. For example, if an applicant has only taken 2 GEs, USC will want them to complete the other 4 at their current institution. Compare that to someone who has completed 6 GE and all their prereqs. It makes no sense for them to be admitted into spring if they have completed everything they can for USC. Why go back to your current school just to earn credit that doesn’t help towards your major or contributes to the GEs or PreReqs…

It’s probably a combination of all the above…

@eoverland 3.95 GPA, some good work experience, no EC’s, my essays were really strong in my opinion. Yes I did, I got it yesterday around noon and then I received my acceptance around noon today. Thank you!

@mrajan97 Thank you!!! Congrats to you as well! Feels good after waiting so damn long haha

@pomeranian4rich i heard that they save spots for us but who knows now

@megan343 I only did FAFSA I’m pretty sure, but yes I got the ability to benefit yesterday around noon and then received my acceptance at noon today! Thank you!

@pomeranian4rich Pretty sure I only did FAFSA as well. I don’t think everyone receives that ability to benefit and if you don’t, it’s not a sign of a decline. I don’t know exactly how that works. I just kept constantly checking the financial aid section and then it randomly showed up.

Checked the portal today. The first time i entered my login credentials, and it took me to an error page so i refreshed the page and retyped my info. When the login went thru, it took me to the same page as every other tome, but now instead of seeing “Check your application status,” the link said “Admission Decision.”

Accepted–Spring 2017!
Major: Economics/Dornsife
Applied as: Rising Sophomore (34 units)
GPA/units: 3.7 when I applied, 4.0 spring quarter and a 3.76 overall
Extracurriculars: high school stuff lol
Essays: recycled my high school application essays so i dont remember
Rec letters: One from my honors anthro professor

I also got a 2120 on my SAT and passed a buncha AP in high school but idk if it counted cuz i have 30+ units

Overall im glad to be a trojan! Nows time for me to figure out what ima do until spring semester. Since i found out my decision via the online portal, i wasn’t able to see any of the materials they have to guide me on what to do during this fall. I think i might wanna study abroad and finish my last class for the french requirement.

Fight on!!

@topchoiceschool Congratulations! You truly deserve it! I’m also a Marshall applicant with the exact same GPA as you. What a coincidence lol

May I ask how many units have you completed? Are you transferring from a community college?

Thank you

Is anyone still waiting for Marshall? I submitted my spring grades in person on June 10 and still have not received a decision. At this point, I’m worried there might not be many spots left :frowning:
