@penntousc some ge courses would be humanities 1(intro), sociology 1(intro), film history, those are some GE that i’m currently taking right now for summer courses. It kinda sucks that they don’t have a transfer sheet for other schools outside of california like in your state. I think taking acct and calc both semesters are good. For my ccc, calc 1 and 2 are require to fulfill the math requirement, so take up to calc 2 to be on the safer side and add one or two GE per semester and you’ll be set!
and what you can do to find what ge to take is to compare usc’s ge catalog with your school and find classes that match exactly like usc’s ge class description.
@CaliforniaUSC I wish someone had told me this sooner. Even my counselor didn’t say anything about it when I showed her my classes, unless she doesn’t know much about usc. From the UC system perspective, I think I was told to focus on prereq major and GE laters. For example, ucla biz econ requires acct 1 and 2, calc 1,calc 2 and you don’t have to finish all your GEs prior to transferring. I think that’s where I might have confused myself.
@pomeranian4rich for my CC all the way across the country, there’s surprisingly an articulation with enough courses for about 3 semesters. I’ll be taking intro to sociology and humanities II in the fall, and in the spring I have the choices of western civ II, American National government, intro to music, and physical geology, all of which transfer. Other classes consist of comp 1 and 2, and then I had both calc and accounting 1 and 2 in there… The main reason for my worrying is that I NEED to get in for next year whether it be fall or spring because if I get rejected, I won’t have enough transferable courses to fill up 2 more semesters. That’s why I just want to make sure I get this years schedule right… I’ve already got a great situation with my counselor (she happens to only be in charge of reviewing apps from the eastern side, no sections in Cali), I just need to make sure that my completed coursework and grades will appeal enough to USC for a sophomore acceptance.
In order to find more classes that would likely transfer (that aren’t on the articulation), I use a “bridge” school. For me since I’m near philly, I used Temple University since lots of kids from my CC transfer there. What I did was went onto USC’s articulation and searched for temple, which provides me with a much broader articulation agreement. Then, I opened a new tab and went to temples articulation agreements, and found my CC. I was then able to search through and find courses that transferred from my CC to Temple, and then transferred from Temple to USC. I only found 3 or 4 since I’m so far away, but you should be able to find a school to “bridge” with, with no problem.
@penntousc seems like you have things under control! you won’t have a problem getting in next year and hopefully it won’t be a problem for me also since I’m literally taking GE courses for my next two semesters prior to transferring lol.
@pomeranian4rich considering that you finished this year with a 4.0 and your writing and math requirements are out of the way, you should most definitely be set for next year as well.
@penntousc I mean it is up to you. The business classes that I took were intro to econ, business calc and stats. I don’t think theres much of a need to take a class like Calc 2 when USC makes it clear they just want calc 1 or business calc. I would try to do maybe a GE instead of accounting. Call you USC counselor, don’t be afraid to. They’re very helpful and they’ll give you the best advice. Just pound the pavement. All I know is that at most 4 year schools, or my old one at least, you typically don’t take accounting until sophomore year, so they don’t expect you to have it done
Don’t be hard on yourself, @pomeranian4rich - my son has, we think, NO GE’s done. Or maybe one. The ones he took at his 4 yer don’t seem to count (as far as we can tell, and it was very hard for him to get courses AND find USC ones - big school) and even his school’s first year writing requirement doesn’t count at USC. The transfer report will help him make a decision, because at his current school, he’s DONE with GE’s after fall. AT USC, seems he needs 40 units worth including writing. Not okay, honestly.
@xerxes96 Log into Oasis and click on the “course transfer” link at the top of the page. Then click on the Transfer Credit report link. Here’s the link to the tutorial if you need it
@CaliforniaUSC thanks for the tip, I sent my counselor an email last night and she’s pretty good with getting back so I should receive an answer soon enough.
Just received my financial aid report. I was expecting to get at least some aid, but it turns out that I will not be receiving any financial aid at all. Looks like I will be paying for USC out of pocket
@jazzshreddermom would you mind elaborating on which courses your son took in an attempt to fulfill GE’s? I’m working on scheduling my courses for this upcoming year (will apply for transfer for next year) and while there are plenty of GE-like courses on the articulation, I’m worried about which ones will actually count.
@aalfulaij my TRC was complete. It listed all of the credits that transfer and what requirements they fulfilled. It listed a couple classes that they are still reviewing and the credits that I’ve taken that do not transfer. When did you get your acceptance? Maybe it hasn’t updated yet.
Rejected from Marshall. Really disappointing knowing I waited this long just for a rejection letter. How can you appeal if it’s not available in the “Submit Documents” area?
