2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

@pomeranian4rich that’s so dumb that you got rejected. Are you out of state?

@uschopefulll I’m in-state attending a ccc near usc

Rejected. GPA:3.67 (54units) Marshall
But I will try next year. Good luck everyone!

Sorry to those hearing they did not get in - best of luck and many will still be here next year supporting you if you try again! And hopefully you will find out earlier next year, this wait was brutal for many and housing will be rough at this point.

for anyone out there who’s planning to apply next year as a sophomore, focus on your GE courses. They will likely focus on how many GE courses you’ve completed. I’ve barely completed any GE and was focusing on my core classes for my major like accounting, econ, calculus and etc. It’s best if you can complete two or more GEs while still pursuing your major prereqs. I think the sole reason for my rejection is the lack of completed GE courses. Good Luck to everyone out there. You’ll expect to see me again on next year’s thread.
Stats: GPA:3.87 (34 transferrable units, Marshall)

@pomeranian4rich great advice, couldn’t agree more. An applicant with most of the GEs completed will have the upper hand compared to an applicant with none completed, even if they have the same GPA.

I still haven’t gotten anything from USC. And only 2 more days left technically. Idk if I should be glad that I haven’t gotten a rejection?? ._. I feel like it’s coming tho.

@pomeranian4rich do you have an idea for how many you’d completed? Your stats seemed pretty strong… I’ve got my schedule set up for an OOS CC this year, all of my credits being GE’s or major prep, so I’ll be joining you for next years wait

@pomeranian4rich is correct. They don’t want you finishing a lot of major courses, they want those to come from USC, which makes sense. They would rather you take GEs and core classes, like the writing req etc. In CS for example, they don’t care for many CS classes offered by other schools.

for anyone accepted or rejection who hasn’t give their stats, there is a thread for it here:

5 days @Kraz4CocoPuffs

@pomeranian4rich man that is extremely annoying that they waited this long. Wish you the best!

@pomeranian4rich your admissions counselor will tell you if you ask them.

@xxxnoa wish you the best!

@penntousc out of the GE i’ve only completed two of the sevens. the two are quantitative reasoning and physical sciences with laboratory. I haven’t touch social analysis, humanistic inquiry, the arts, and global perspectives.

Emailed my counselor asking why I am rejected. Still waiting for a response

I posted this in the transfer forum but I thought I would do it here too!

[] College transferring from: Loyola Marymount University
[
] Entering as: Sophomore
[] GPA: 3.6-3.7 in high school, 3.86 first semester 3.91 second semester, 3.9 overall
[
] Units completed: 32, 30 transferable
[] Units in progress: 3 over the summer, finishing art requirement
[
] Pre-reqs completed: Business Calc, Writing 150
[] GEs completed: Not sure, a lot of mine satisfy half of a GE, since some require 2 courses. I know I have completed math, art, english, and a few others
[/ul]Subjective:

[ul]
[
] ECs listed on app: Not much in terms of ECs
[] Job/Work Experience: Worked 2 jobs during the school year, but foolishly only put one on my app, doesn’t matter anymore I guess! I also am interning for my second summer in a row at a Fortune 100 tech company. But in all honesty, to anyone looking for the future, I really really don’t think USC cares about ECs. Basically every counselor told me that and they all say very strongly to focus on grades grades grades.
[
] Essays (subject and responses): 9/10, spent my winter break working on them, just why I want to do business
[] Letters of Recommendation: Really good, one from my boss who is an active alum of USC, and another from my econ professor, and his class was really tough, only two/three kids got As, and he made them aware of that
[/ul]Other:

[list]
[
] Other schools applied to: None!
[*] Comments: Never dreamed I would be going to such a good school. Also never dreamed I would find out literally 2 months after I submitted my spring grades. The past 2 months have been the biggest emotional roller coaster of my life, but I am so excited it is over and ready to fight on!!

So sorry @pomeranian4rich :frowning: I totally agree, the focus of everyone’s coursework shouldn’t be on major work, it should be on completing as many GEs as you can and all pre-reqs. While they like to see accounting and the other recommended courses, that is mainly for junior applicants, not sophomore, so everyone seeing this for next year take note! Especially since USC essentially makes you take ALL major work at USC

@pomeranian4rich I was pulling for you so sorry to hear your rejection but definitely try to appeal if you have more information and ask your counselor why you were rejected. Good luck in the near future. Fight on.

@CaliforniaUSC so would you recommend that I not take accounting or calc 2 as a freshman? Right now I’ve got accounting 1 and calc 1 scheduled so those are set in stone, but accounting 2 and calc 2 were courses I was going to take in the spring. However, there are courses available that may fulfill USC GE’s that I could replace those two with… Would you recommend that?
