2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

@Cindyciclta Sorry about the delayed reply. Hmm, I’ve honestly never heard of such a thing happening. I like the say they forgot about me at first because they did not notify me of anything on June 1st (even though they adamantly state that everybody will get an SGR, acceptance, or rejection by this date). I only had to wait around 5 more days, so my wait doesn’t even compare to yours. As people have been saying, it’s probably best to keep calling anybody you can in admissions just so they don’t forget you and look into this matter. I can’t remember anybody in years past having to wait so long. Aside from appeal people, of course.

@ProfessorX5 and anybody else that may have applied for the Topping Scholarship. Did anybody go in for their interview today?

@zettasyntax okay thanks for your insights. I will call and call again.

@zettasyntax Hey I had to do a skype interview because I am doing an summer research program at the University of Michigan Medical School. Did you interview? How did it go?

@ProfessorX5 I think mine went pretty bad, to be honest. They said each person gets about 20 minutes, but after I had gone through all of the questions, they said I had 10 minutes left, so I should talk more about myself. I didn’t really have much else to say. I think they were really pushing for somebody that helps out the community and I felt like my volunteer work with hospitals didn’t really impress them all that much since that’s basically all I had in terms of service to the community. They did mention that they really target people from East Los Angeles and Trade Tech so that gave me some hope - even if that’s the only reason they like me, I’d be happy lol. We talked about King Taco and I mentioned that I didn’t really like it despite living close to one. Overall, bad interview, I’d say.

@zettasyntax oh I’m sorry to hear that. Best of luck to you though!

I am not from that district so hopefully that would not be hold against me since I did mention a lot of community awareness and involvements I am a part of.

@topchoiceschool It took almost a week for me to get the orientation email after I submitted my deposit.

I got the orientation thing like 5 days after

I got my financial aid package today. is it 100% accurate what is says?

@mr.transfer pretty sure u can appeal it if u think its not enough to an extent

So my cost to attend is $22000/year and that includes housing, dining and other expenses and I don’t know if thats generous enough since my EFC was 0000 if I take out all the federal loans they are providing then I have to come out of pocket $10000/year. I was thinking if I could take out dining (which is $5000/year) and provide my own food expenses since I will be working while I’m at USC

@mr.transfer dining comes with the housing (unless you’re living off campus then nvm)

@mr.transfer not too sure i havent received my fafsa thing yet because i need to have them verify something i submitted but two other private schools i applied to pretty much the same price as usc gave me a financial aid around that same amount sad to say it sounds about right ahahha but yeah maybe have to go the private loan route yo

I will be living off campus, just trying to minimize my debt. Which document do we use to appeal? Are most appeals successful? Would definitely needs your advice man @zettasyntax

looking at some of the fafsa videos it could be good or bad but if u think you need more aid whats there to lose

have yall figured out your housing situations yet??

@mr.transfer My EFC was also 0000. I have to pay 16K. It says most would be covered by work study and loans, so it claims that 4.5K is out of pocket. This is largely due to housing/dining costs because from what I can recall during my spring semester, USC took care of just about all of my educational-related experiences, but I had some other expenses factored in (like medical insurance since I was uninsured). In discussions with another student, he basically stated that the lowest he’s ever seen/heard that a student has had to pay is 12K out of pocket. USC wants you to pay something even and that something is usually housing. Even with this Topping Scholarship that I’m so anxious about getting, a current scholar I spoke with basically said that USC will take away from my university grant if I do indeed get the scholarship, so I’m wondering how much it might help. She said that there are very few scholarships that won’t cause USC to juggle things around.

In the appeal tales I’ve heard, a large number of people have managed to get more aid. It actually seems like all of them experienced at least some form of increase in financial aid, but not all of them were necessarily 100% satisfied. Nevertheless, most seemed content with the increases they saw. If you appeal, just upload a typed letter from your financial aid portal/document library and include any other documents explaining your expenses. For instance, maybe some staggering medical bills or just about anything that gives them a better idea about your financial situation.

Where do we find our USC id number? Is it it the one in the portal?

Anyone know what they are doing about housing that got in for fall?

@iwtbaa15 still looking for placed seems like if u want something near campus its easily 1000 a month but if youre for a roomate maybe carpool commute in still looking

@daRamz I looked at the university gateway apartments yesterday and yeah they are 959 for 12 months or 1109 for 10 months. I just don’t know how to pay for it. I could commute, but I really don’t want to deal with traffic if I don’t have to. I live about an hour and 10 minutes away. I could also stay with family in the sanfernando valley to be a little closer.

Those prices are with a roommate in one room and 2 others in the other room in the apartment.
