2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

Also it was just a time in freshmen year of high school where some guys were bullying a student online and I didn’t tell them to stop (I went to a very very strict Catholic, private, college prep institute) and they suspended me for not stopping them and just watching. Have a completely clean record other than that and since that

@zettasyntax how do you know when your restrictions change?

I can’t log into Oasis, which I know doesn’t mean anything but it would be so awesome to be able to log on!

@zettasyntax Thank you for the wealth of info that you have shared with us. I found out that my son had access to Oasis after reading one of your posts a few days ago. His restrictions were updated yesterday morning. His STAR report was filled out today. He doesn’t know this yet. I want to keep it a secret till the admission package arrives.

@triviummom Congrats to you and your son. That must be a great, but also relieving feeling. If it is not too personal, do you mind sharing what the restriction update entailed or said?

@goldenlily Do you currently have access to OASIS? The first date it has typically corresponds to when they received your application. I sent in my application in 2014 on 1/31 and that was the date it had for the longest time. When it changes to something more recent, such as 5/4, that’s how you know it changed because it usually has something from months back when you first started

@triviummom No problem. I’m sure USC is going to catch on eventually and I only wish I could help with all the people that are wondering about how housing might be an indicator. You have such a fun secret to be keeping  I hope your son is excited on the day admission package does arrive :stuck_out_tongue:  Congrats to your son.

@PDrake6 Thank you! The restriction update is just a change in the date shown under Account Restrictions. My son’s changed from the beginning of February to yesterday’s.

@zettasyntax Thank you very much! Congratulations to you too!!

Restrictions changed from 1/28 to 5/2… No STARS Report or anything filled out yet.
Getting a little worried now about a rejection at this point.
Either that, or I’m getting SGR’d because I’m in the middle of my Spring quarter now.

Restrictions changed to 4/29. Worried

Hmmm I just received a somewhat/pretty prestigious (if little known) scholarship to attend a cultural program this summer. Students from Harvard, Yale, Stanford are the usual recipients, so I’m pretty surprised I got it—I think they liked my mission statement. Do you think I should notify admissions of this additional award? It loosely relates to my major and very much relates to my reasons for transferring from my present college.

What are these restrictions that everyone is talking about? Is this on Oasis? Also, I was able to register for housing. Does this mean anything @zettasyntax? Thanks for all your help here, btw!

I’m confused about all this restrictions talk… was it a change on oasis restrictions? also what is star report, is any of this found on you.usc.edu. I have yet to receive anything from USC… :-SS

also, a question about additional information. has anyone submitted additional info? did you get a confirmation email on it, or just an extra additional information in your “received documents” tab on you.usc.edu? they wouldn’t be angry or annoyed with me if there are 3 additional information’s i sent in, right?? one was through common app I believe when I first submitted my app, to list classes I would be taking in Spring. Then I sent one last week, updating some important extracurriculars that have happened since I submitted my application. Then I sent another one today trying to clear up some confusion with regards to why some requirements are yet to be taken…
I called USC but the people I spoke to were very vague, they didn’t even ask for my name to put notes in my application and my admissions counselor hasn’t replied to me and its been over a month. trust me i did everything I could. email, call, left a couple messages… never got back. sigh. hoping for the best.

@anxiousmac You will find Restrictions under Course Information on USC:OASIS. STARS report is a “Detailed listing of a student’s degree requirements that have been met and those that remain to be fulfilled (if any).” According to what I have read, if the STARS report is filled out, it is suppose to signify acceptance. Unfortunately, none of this information is found on you.usc.edu.

@anxiousmac An OASIS shortcut is found on my.usc.edu, but that’s for students. A restrictions change is basically done whenever there’s something new with your application. It changes from the initial date (when you sent your application) to a more current date when a decision is made. Also, if anybody wants to know, restrictions also change for other things when you’re a student :stuck_out_tongue: Like I put off showing them proof of my MMR vaccination and a restrictions change was made saying there was a hold on my student account until I corrected that - the restrictions make more sense once you’re a student

@weeanonymouse and for you too anxiousmac, if you have anything to tell them, I would send them a letter  I sent them a lot of letters to explain things when I applied. A new scholarship award (especially if it’s exclusive) might be worth letting them know about; it certainly can’t hurt. And honestly, I know nothing about housing. I don’t even recall many people checking that during the years I applied, so I can’t confirm if it means anything from my experience.

@zettasyntax
so basically if I don’t have access to oasis, then I can’t really see those restrictions?
also, by sending them a letter do you mean physically? in addition to the additional info I uploaded online? Would I just send that to Undergraduate Admissions? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!

@anxiousmac Yes, if you can’t manage to log onto OASIS, then you won’t be able to see the restrictions unfortunately. It’s not really that big of a deal, but it does basically let you have a hunch about your decision a couple of days before you’d find out normally is all.

It seems weird yeah, but I liked to send them physical letters with additional info. I just sent it to Undergraduate Admissions like I would my transcripts. The worst that can happen is that your counselor will have two copies of the info and if on the off-chance they didn’t see it online, maybe they’d check out the physical copy

@zettasyntax Are you sure a restrictions change indicates a decision has been made on one’s application. My restrictions changes occurred on 4/29 and I took the risk and I straight up asked my admissions counselor if I could send my spring grades without it being requested by the admissions office, and I was told go right ahead. I did this because I want them to see my spring grades before making a final decision.

@triviummom my heart literally melted while reading you post. I wish you and your son the best! Do you know what major he applied under as, what school he went to, his GPA, and whether he is on TTP?

I just really wish I had access to Oasis, so I can see updates on my application

Hey guys, I was just wondering how USC typically informs students of their acceptance. Do students normally get the acceptance package in the mail first or do they receive electronic and mail decisions around the same time? Thanks!

@Brandon7CC Its a mix of both. It really just depends on how the postal services are from the looks of it. Yo0u can check last years decisions thread and see that some people got the electronic notification first but the package was postmarked before you usc updated. I think some people earlier in this thread said that they got the package first though
