@rebeccar how are things working out with the future inlaws?
So far so good! Funnily enough (or not so funny now, but I’m sure we’ll laugh later…), the guest list turned out to be not an issue at all. They got so many declines that we were actually afraid for a few weeks that we’d be below our minimum. Now we’re just trying to sort out “who’s paying what” which isn’t exactly fun, but will hopefully be settled soon. FH and I found an apartment yesterday, and our honeymoon flights are booked. It’s all coming together eeeeeek
All right! After trying on at least 30 dresses in 4 stores, D1 said yes to the dress. She described what she was looking for (a specific one we saw online) and the sales clerk pulled it off the sales rack! She said it could be ordered new in the correct size and color. Amazing, since D had called a few weeks ago and they said they didn’t have that particular style. Easy sale for the sales consultant; plus 10% off for buying at the first visit and free veil.
But is was THE dress!
Are there any weddings this weekend?
My son’s is next weekend. Yikes!
My DS’s was a month ago already . Time sure flies.
If I’m correct, there r 2 next weekend. Rebecca’s and tx5ahome(probably misspelled)
6 weeks
On the countdown
9 weeks out here. Invitations are in the mail. 90 year old Granfpa was the first to get his because he didn’t want to buy a present til he got the invite. The present is all picked out and he is impatient to complete the purchase, so I asked D to drop his in the mail. So he was also first to RSVP online, and he got it done with no help!
My son and fiancé are looking for a venue in Chicago area for late summer or early fall 2019. They’ve started a list of everything that needs to be done.
@bookworm my D and her fiancé are getting married in San Diego this December in a very small ceremony. They are having a bigger reception next summer in Chicago at a downtown restaurant. It is Pinstripes. I guess they do everything except for the centerpieces. I don’t know how much it costs, though I could find out if you’d like.
If you are wanting a different type of venue, let me know. I can ask them where else they looked. I know they looked at places in the western suburbs that would have required more work on our part but were cheaper.
D1 just went to her sister-in-law’s wedding this weekend. She said it was a bit chaotic for pictures because they didn’t have a list of people they wanted for group pictures. They spent a lot of time looking for people because they didn’t know who were supposed to be in which picture and when. D1 said she wasn’t sure if mother of the bride had a picture with the bride. The photographer said they could just wing it and he would just capture the moment. Unless the photographer knows everyone, he wouldn’t know which moment to catch.
The wedding was at a huge church. D1 said as the bride and father were walking down the aisle there were 2 couples who were trying to run in front of them to sit down because they were late. It was lucky D1 volunteered to “fluff” bride’s dress, she was there to stop those guests.
Bajamm, thx so much. I know they want something artistic and/or cool, but a place where they don’t have to bring in caterers etc. I’ll pass on Pinstripes to them. Once they pick the venue, then they can help me with the rehearsal venue. I have borrowed from Oldfort and others to say I’d like a nearby brewery kind of place.
I’m trying to hold onto the moment they FaceTimed me from Scotland with their news, and the joy they are feeling.
Re-joining this thread–Oldest D recently got engaged! The wedding will be next June in Italy where D and her fiance (both American) live.
(If anyone else in CC land has done a wedding in Italy, let me know.) D is visiting us for several weeks. Yesterday she got an OK on a reception venue (a farm), and she has a backup on that. Waiting to hear from the priest about his/church availability. It will be “no frills,” --no bridesmaids/groomsmen, no fancy decorations or party favors, etc. No extra parties (engagement, showers, bachelor/ette).
We looked at dresses yesterday but D didn’t try on any–made appointments for later. When we got home from that, D asked to try on MY wedding dress! D loves the idea (and price) of a borrowed dress. While she has several offers on used dresses (both grandmas, 5 sil), it never crossed my mind that D would consider my (made by grandma 80’s) dress. I didn’t think it would fit her anyway. OMG–when she tried it on I unexpectedly got really choked up. It fit perfectly. Better than it fit me. If the long sleeves were removed and the trim replaced, it could work. (Chances are she’ll choose something else, but a touching moment.)
D’s ring belonged to her fiance’s great-grandmother and mother, so even more history there.
^^^
I hope she picks my your dress! My d tried on my hideous 80’s dress. She asked if i was upset she wasn’t wearing it.
Nope! Princess Di’s wedding dress style was not kind to late 80’s brides.
My daughter’s is August 4. Yikes! Am in official freak out mode!
4 days… Everything seems to be under control, yet I have developed a giant stress ball in my chest.
@atomom, my H’s cousin’s D got married in Italy, but I don’t know much about it other than that they used a planner, since it was a destination wedding. I just know that the couple had to be married civilly before they could be married in the church. Same for my friend’s S who was married in Poland.
For those of you with weddings coming up, DO NOT STRESS. All will be fine, and if something doesn’t go quite right … oh, well. It is going to be wonderful, no matter what. And it will go by so quickly you won’t believe it. D’s wedding was 2-1/2 months ago, and it’s hard to believe that it came & went so quickly. Relax and enjoy the day.

I’ve how accumulated three pairs of shoes for my mom of groom outfit. After trying almost 15 pairs I’ve decided to go with comfort. The ground is uneven and venue in the redwoods. I’m not sure what pair I’ll wear but leaning towards the Eileen Fisher as it will keep twigs out of my toes.
Wedding is about 7 weeks away.
Also had a great visit last week with my D’s wedding planner. That wedding is 10 months away but my D is ultra organized.
@atomom welcome back.
@Massmomm I will be thinking of you on the weekend.
I like the Eileen Fisher shoes best. Super cute
