A huge burden has just been lifted from my shoulders. The venue is letting us use another caterer. I was able to choose the top rated caterer on Yelp, which should be a safe bet. There are only two caveats; they can’t use the venue’s kitchen and I have to sign a non-disparagement agreement for the venue and their “exclusive” caterer.
Do they not need the kitchen? Or there’s some alternate way to heat food and prep plates?
We’re kind of in the same boat. The venue we’ve chosen is allowing us to use an outside caterer but with no access to the kitchen, so we reached out to one I had in mind and they said they don’t need a kitchen but they need a private space to set up. I sent the caterer the contact information for the venue and they’re supposed to connect on Friday and she will let me know, Fingers crossed!
My D’s venue does not have a caterer and although she has access to the kitchen (fridge and sink) the caterer cannot use the stove/oven. However, several of the caterers have portable stoves that they set up in the kitchen. What it looks like, how it works or how big it is, I have no idea.
Some caterers have a big truck they bring that has everything they need. Kitchen on wheels. Even if they don’t cook in there they can prep, reheat and plate things.
Have you seen this video of the bride whose father died in 201? Her 5 brothers stepped in for the father-daughter dance. They added audio of their late father from home videos. I was in tears by the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1Ckte-hG44
I was in tears in the first 30 seconds.
My D ordered a strapless dress but wants to add skinny spaghetti sized beaded straps. Any suggestions of online sources for trim. Or brick and mortar places in the East Bay or Sacramento areas.
The place she ordered the dress can’t do it?
Thx, that was a touching video.
@jym626 they can do it but suggested she get the material.
Many good fabric stores sell wedding dress material and have staff experienced in what works. Depending on where you are, you may need to call around. Or maybe a good local seamstress. Is this a store that doesn’t usually make changes to dresses, just fits them?
Michaels also sells things like this.

@mom60. Who’s doing the alterations? I would not send a bride out to buy a beaded spaghetti strap with no direction. Depends on dress material, shade of dress, can the strap be added so it looks natural. A seamstress would know.
Thanks for all the replies. I suggested she call the manager of the shop and ask what she suggests. She was not originally planning on adding straps but saw someone on Instagram had done so and she liked the look. The dress was not set to arrive till January but they called and it is in early. They do alterations but I’ve also suggested she speak with her wedding planner and ask about an independent seamstress. It is a small three shop company and my D has been in two of the locations. She bought the dress in one of them but she didn’t care for the staff there. She liked the person she dealt with at the other location. She has had the dress sent to the preferred location. The wedding is not till June so she has plenty of time.
I no longer have a fabric store in my city. My D has no clue about sewing or alterations and lives 7 hours from me. I don’t think she has a fabric store but lives close enough that she could go to the East bay or San Francisco. I could go look in Los Angeles as I know several spots but that’s two hour drive each way for me if I don’t have traffic.
Thinking about it I think she should just wait and go try on the dress and see at that point what she might want to do.
This may mean nothing or it could be a deal breaker for those purchasing wedding apparel.

Just found out DS and his wife (married August 4th) are pregnant!!! Due at the end of May. Not a honeymoon baby, but pretty close. They are VERY excited! I am not allowed to tell anyone yet, so pretend I didn’t tell you…
Fantastic, @tx5athome - congratulations!
Sorry @tx5athome - they are expecting, but only his wife is pregnant. Congrats, and fingers crossed.
