Agree that a gold watch and an Apple watch are different animals and that was my point. I was replying specifically to one poster’s comment saying they understood women should not wear watches (which I read to mean all watches) to formal events.
In any event I would not say anything to the MIL and if she wears the Apple Watch the photographer can always ask her “would you like to take that off for the formal pictures?”
I guess from decades away pov, I want to tell these couples curating a vibe that they will never look at these photos more than 5 times in their (hopefully) long marriage. It’s judgey, it’s cringey. Again, your guests are not props or decor, please don’t treat them like they are after they made the effort to be there for you.
Asking guests to turn off phones, be vaccinated are reasonable requests IMO. Dictating a color palate or asking people to remove a watch are not. I can see asking people to slip off the jackets/parka for a picture (I would tell them it so we can see their lovely wedding attire).
I did read all watches. But agree Diamond watches are more like jewelry. Personally, and I know many of you will disagree, but apple watches look SO out of place with evening wear.
I would like to point out that for all the and and and or we have on this thread that it is because we come from different walks of life, parts of the country, backgrounds, resources, etc. that sometimes what one considers “normal” is another persons WHAT THE HECK?!
I mean, my Apple Watch was MY +1 to my daughter’s wedding…
My daughter is now just wanting people to show up. Doesn’t care if they have watches on or shorts or Hawaiian shirts. Just show up.
But she’d like a few nice pictures and if someone has something that can easily be fixed like a crooked collar or a watch that is blinking, I hope they’d be willing to fix that thing. I don’t think her photog will have an assistant to catch the little things so I’m happy for these kind of reminders I get on CC.
So, listen. Sorry if I’ve offended anyone. I’ve been in a ■■■ mood the last few weeks and just opening my mouth, or rather typing, when I shouldn’t. I don’t have to express every opinion. (But I did read no watches with formalwear, but as many things, it’s probably fine to the wayside).
I don’t like the look of Apple Watch…since D2 just got married, I went to look at some pictures. There it was, my sister wore an Apple Watch with her gown, and it didn’t look bad.
D2’s photographer did ask everyone to take off their glasses. She said glasses had reflection.
Double checked my wedding photos and I was wearing long white gloves, no watch over them! My mom was wearing a long sleeved white dress with beading at the cuffs so don’t think there was a watch. MIL and SIL (a bridesmaid) both had gold watches. My MOH and other bridesmaid did not, far as I could tell.
I wore a dressy gold watch to weddings, including as MOB/MOG. Helpful for keeping on schedule. Plus it was a Mother’s Day gift (from hubby, after the kids were grown).
I don’t understand that one. My whole family has worn glasses since forever – if we take them off, we don’t look like ourselves, so what good is the photo?
We had a professional family picture outside, and my older sister had darkening glasses. I suggested she remove them for the photo. Definitely was a distraction with the photo IMHO. Others with glasses looked fine.
My husband took his glasses off and put them in his pocket for a few minutes before pics were taken. No tint in the pics. The glasses are an integral part of him, so it would have been weird for him to be without them.
We had a dog “ring bearer” at the 2022 wedding. I was a part time “pet attendant” making sure the pup was okay, and even jumping in during the ceremony to take him to the side, but he was mostly handled by his owners who were in the wedding party.
But some people apparently hiring these professional pet attendant folks for $100 an hour to watch over and take care of the couple’s pet during the wedding? Holy cow. There are some cute doggie photos in the link… what I want to see is someone with a pet snake hiring a “pet attendant.”
