2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 2)

Still waiting for a thank you for a shower gift from May. Wondering if it will ever come at this point.

Glad I impressed upon my kids the importance of thank you notes from a young age. D and SIL sent out all of their thank you notes within a month of the wedding (and they were on a honeymoon for almost 2 weeks).

The couple’s registry was on Zola. From the email I received it stated only the couple is notified of shipping , they decide when they want it shipped. The only way I know if they received the gift when I receive a thank you. they do encourage a prompt thank you! (I do have a receipt for purchase)
Should I contact my friend (MOB) to inquire, and when?

My son and dil were not great about getting out thank you notes for their wedding.

After 2 months, I told my son that I did not want to hear his grandmother complaining to me about not receiving a thank you from them.

They went out at least to the grandparents not too soon afterwards.

We sent 2 checks in early to mid May. We got a thank you in person at wedding for one, and a text for the other. I think that’s the end of that.
I told my son that my generation and older expected thank-you notes. I realize it may not be true for all, but I knew the people who gave them gifts.

Just remember that thank you notes or no thank you notes is not a reflection of you for your kids or the parents of any bride and groom. It’s their wedding, their gifts and their task to communicate receipt of the gifts in whatever way.

While it may be a show of thanks and politeness, I would not judge someone’s character or maturity or true gratefulness based on. The timeliness of a thank you note.

That’s me.

I was just curious because have heard of the ubiquitous porch pirates and was hoping the amazon package for my niece was in fact actually received by her. I knew she wanted the gift as it was on her Amazon baby registry.

She’s normally excellent about acknowledging receipt of items.

I’m not judgey about a lot of things, but I am about thank-you notes. I raised my boys to write handwritten notes for gifts promptly. I have no idea whether ds1 sent them out for wedding gifts, but I’d be a little mortified if they didn’t. But, yeah, I know it’s not a reflection on me. I did my job!

We got ours out within a month or two, if I recall. H wrote those for people he knew and his relatives and I wrote the rest. I wrote a ton, as most were dad’s friends.

I sent two fancy pasta attachments for a Cuisanart. She tweeted a picture of fresh pasta; no hint how she made it.

@HImom, S prefers a belt. Works better for the way he’s built (it’s a family trait).

FDIL had said the color would be burgundy, so I think there was a little language barrier. I didn’t see a color sample til yesterday, and it definitely leans to purple! I can still wear the dress I have, but I found something dressier in the new color (and it will cost me very little because I have an unused store credit plus 40% off coupon).

FDIL would like everyone to wear something in the wedding color. She’s fine if that’s just an accessory like earrings, a scarf, a tie, but she doesn’t want folks going out to buy it.

Most of their budget is renting the bus/driver to take guests from Lviv to the winery four hours away, and for booking hotel rooms for their guests who wouldn’t be able to attend otherwise. It will be simple and lovely.

It sounds very lovely and how nice you found a perfect garment so well-priced! It’s very thoughtful of them o provide transportation and lodging for their guests! It sounds like it will be a memorable and very special gathering.

It helps that prices there are very low. FDIL has arranged for a 29-passenger bus and driver for three days – $400. I was just looking at Booking.com and hotels are $15-40/night. I think they’re expecting 35-50 people max. They will pay for friends for whom even $100 is a big chunk of income. There will be a photographer and a DJ, bouquets for FDIL and two bridesmaids, lots of wine and food, and a mountain vineyard heavy with grapes for scenery. I’m doing the email invitations (FDIL will add the Ukrainian text).

Wow—so great that everyone has this wonderful event to look forward to! It sounds like plans are progressing nicely!

Went to a baby shower where the gifts were not wrapped although many used a gift bag. Someone arranged all the gifts nicely on a table and many of the cute baby things were displayed. Gave everyone a chance to oo and ah but saved the opening of each gift one at a time. Instead we ate, drank and played a few games which was a lot of fun–saved a lot of time and didn’t drag out the party.

When you think about it, public unwrapping IS time consuming and cuts back on time for visiting. I already mailed a gift to the mom-to-be for the shower we are attending on Sunday. I did buy a kids’ cookbook for her S as a big brother gift that I will give him at the shower.

Have any of your brides/grooms enjoyed a particular wedding based magazines or not 500 page books? I thought it would be fun to send my daughter (she enjoys a good magazine) a one issue something to enjoy flipping through.

Not so much a journal or a planner. Just an inspiring colorful, pretty in print item to browse through!

I got a couple of Bride type magazines for D when she got engaged but she seemed much more interested in going through Pintrest pages.

My S is not interested in getting into minutia. I think he would prefer we let things evolve—and we are.

You sparked a memory. When I was engaged and visiting (now H) and he had to work (military officer), I would sometimes go off-base and buy Brides and Modern Bride magazines to look through. I can remember doing that so clearly.

Upthread I was worried about venue cost and her metro vs. our small town. But she found one near her home that wasn’t outrageous and won’t require much decoration on our part. I’m sold. They booked it and therefore the date is set- 6/22/24!

First dress shopping attempt is in 2 weeks.
